Generic problem for all PC Laptops

With due respect
i have hp 530 with vista home premium preinstalled.now i want to install xp,but following msg occurs
"Setup didnot find any hard disk drivers installed in your computer
Make sure any harddisk drivers are powered on and properly connected to your computer,and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct.This may involve running a manufacturer-supplies diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue.To quit setup press F3"
now somebody say to me that i have to formatt harddisk.But if XP Setup is going on ,then how can i format harddisk,because i thing i can format with xp cd.i dont have floppy drive
