The controllers are now not working/registering on the Wii. I have tried re-syncronizing them and even tried my console on a friends set up thinking it might be the sensor bar. Nothing seems to work. The console turns on and gets to the main menu and seems fine. It just seems not to recognising the controllers.
Please help, I have an eight year old who is frantic he can't get his fix of Lego Star Wars.

Your Wii-motes need to be syncronized to the Wii. Take the battery
covers off of the remotes and open the compartment that you put a
portable SD card into. Click the sync button on the Wii and then on the
remotes and they should sync up easily.
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but have you synced your controllers lately?
Open the little drop over under the disk tray (the place where you put the SD card) and press and hold the red button in there, open the battery cover for the wiimote and press and hold that little red button. Wait till both the controller and the system respond. Basically, they have to find eachother again.
I think you need to register the wii controller to the wii because sometimes the PS3 when you buy another controller you have to register the device to the Ps3 before you can play so i think the Wii may have the same controller registeration. So if it doesn't work try using the controller you 1st got from the box because in order to use the controllers it has to be registered hope it helped.
