Sound Problems I have a 15" Mac PowerBook G4 and my sound is not working.  It seemed to work sometimes, and now it doesn't at all.  When I hit volume up/down/mute keys, I get a "not permitted" icon next to the volume indicator.  I would really appreciate your input on this problem and how it could be solved.  Thank you.

Startup chime on my mac powerbook g4 stopped working. please help !

The parameter ram reset will reset that and other basics back to factory without losing any data. To do this, take a moment and find the command, option, p and r keys and figure out how you are going to hold them ALL down at together. The mac should be off, if not, shut it down (not restart-shutdown). Now, touch the power button and immediately hold down the cmd-option-p-r keys. Hold them for the screen to cycle black to gray THREE times (each taking about 15 seconds), then let go and let the mac complete the boot cycle. On the second cycle, you should have already heard the "chime" appear. That's it! Good Luck.

During boot-up, Apple logo heavily pixelated. After boot-up, display a riot of colors and vertical lines with nothing readable. External monitor works well

I'll appreciate any input.

How do I unlock the speaker on my PowerBook G4?

You probably pressed F3. Press F4 or F5 to unlock the sound. If that don't help then you gots to open this puppy up and clean the dust off the speaker connections and around the speakers. If that don't help then you should replace the speakers. If that don't help then you should replace the sound/power board. Have a pro do it if you don't know how.

Hi, I have a PowerBook G4 17" laptop and the monitor has gone dim, to where it appears black. I can barely see images on the screen, but the backlight is not working. Could this be a video inverter...

Yes, this does sound like it's an inverter issue.
The only way to get this part is straight from Apple or from a Authorized Service Provider who get there parts straight from Apple.

No sound on Powerbook G4

hey,
so not to be obvious but you have one of two problems either hardware or software. there is a way to check but you need to do a few things. first you should try creating a new user account and see if the volume problem still exists. you create a new user through system prefs/accounts. if that doesn’t work you should try a pram reset by holding down the cmd, option, r, p, key at boot. IF you have never done this before you want to hear the startup chimes at least 3 times then let the computer restart. if that still doesn’t work you should try an archive and install of the os from the discs if you still have them, and if none of that work you most likely have a hardware issue and either the logic board needs to be replaced or the speakers are bad. but either way its going to cost money if there is a hardware issue and you might consider a new computer, im just being honest.

Volume Selecting Problem.

I would start by looking in: Apple Menu>System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse, & just check the settings for your trackpad. Sometimes if you have it set so you can tap the tracking surface, it can be too sensitive. Hope that helps.
