Well, if the Missus is unhappy now, I'm sure she's going to be steaming with anger once you read what I have to say now.
Though, don't let it deter you away from voting for my solution because it really is your only choice.
The risk of modding any gaming system is that the Nintendo or any other system is constantly updating. While, the WII updates often this sometimes destroys your Firmware board that's connected to the DVD drive. In this case, it sounds like your firmware board has corrupted and/or your laser. BUT, I would bet my hard earned money on your Firmware being toast.
Now, while I know you're frowning and the Missus is probably about to take a frying pan to someone's face, there is hope!!! :)
But, such happiness and relief comes at a price. Around a $40.00 - $80.00 Price. CLICK HERE TO VISIT A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR WII DVD DRIVES
Alright, smile now :)
The good thing about Nintendo is that you can swap your whole drive out and not have a problem with anything. Unlike other systems, the drive doesn't need to be compatible to the motherboard, so it's just like a plug and play.
I would suggest this solution rather than sending it in for repair. They could find out you modded the system, and this voids your repair.
Goodluck and I hope I helped!!
