Pls check that model number........the problem description does not match that of a 1999 crt proj tv.........I believe yours is a newer lcd projection around 4 or 5 yr old?? The lamp is the most likely cause, but the ballast board can cause this as well..................you should see an access door refer to owner book of the correct model and you can replace yourself...........it may cost around $200 and avaiolable at encompass parts .com Hitach distributor

those are going to be dust spots on the LCD panels internal to the optical engine. i suggest that you take the screen off and take off the panel i nthe middle of the tv with 2 screws in it and there will be an area that has 3 metal fins covering thin orange ribbon cables. the 3 square objects at the end of those ribbon cables will be the LCD panels spray wiht air compressor unitl clean and that should greatly help your problem.

Sony WEGA 42" LCD TV

Uh Oh! blue screen of death. Your light engine has warped a little from overheating and is distorting the picture.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with Sony and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. Even if it is out of warranty.
You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
Hope ya fix it!
