I've read through the other answers and would like confirmation before deciding what to do.
I have an Ip90 and i travel a lot. About a month ago it started having errors when printing; I'd ask it to print but half the time it wouldn't feed properly (it's a mechanical thing - the printer goes ahead and zaps back and forth wasting ink and getting the insides dirty). and sometimes sheets came out squint.
Over the course of a couple of days the problem got worse and worse til now it won't print at all.
I'm not within warranty. Looking at the advice it sounds like i'd need to pay for a new printer bridge(?) that'd cost more than a new printer plus service. But i want to check this before either spending the money or writing it off and spending hours on ebay looking for a new printer :<
thanks in advance
If it was feeding paper askew, I would have thought the paper track may be partially blocked. A bit of paper of debris of some sort blocking a smooth run of the paper.
Having had a real good look, see if it can find anything, the next thing I try is passing a sheet of heavy gauge paper or card maybe, to see if that clears the track. Most printers have a paper feed function which bypasses printing a document.
This seems to be fault in the transport of the paper in the rollers. So if you have used any adhesive sticker printing, it is possible that some glue has got clogged into the rollers. If not there can be some jammed paper in the rollers or the mechanism.
So start this work only if you are mechanically able with the right tools.
Remove the covers to get access to the mechanism . Remove the motor drive assembly , the fitting of the motor to the mechanism. Once this is removed the rollers can be turned manually so that you will be able to feed a paper to see the progress of the movement while studying if there is any obstruction or damage to the paper.
There is a in-detect sensor, usually an opto-coupler , make sure this is not clogged or dirty as this IR detection feeds the signal to the processor for starting the motor drive feed.
Reassemble but make sure the rollers are aligned to be in equal gap to feed the paper without a side pull. Now you must print and see if the fault has changed. If not repeat the above work to confirm the area of obstruction.
13.20 PAPER JAM CHECK REAR DOOR
Media stopped in the paper path during power on
or when the top door was closed.
Action:
1.
Open top cover and remove toner cartridge. Remove all media in the
paper path, and then re-install toner then open and close the top cover.
2.
Open read door and pinch blue latches on fuser and pull it out.
Inspect the sensor flag for correct movement and any paper obstructions in the
fuser rollers. Re-install fuser and Confirm rear door closure.
3.
Remove tray 2 and confirm paper is not jammed in the pickup area.
Confirm paper size adjusters in the tray are correctly set for paper being
used. (Do not set back paper stop to ANY)
4.
Replace any defective sensors or flags
