Electrical burn Garmin Rino

I connected my Garmin Rino to a wrong power plug cord, and resulted in a smoke puff and battery overheating. Now my GPS does not work.
Did I burn the battery? Or was the GPS damaged? What should I do?
Thanks for your help

I would suggest sending it to Garmin for an estimate of repair. We have no way of knowing the damage that has been done.

MY RHINO REVERTED BACK TO MANUFACTURE DATE

the battery inside is dead, this will cause the date to be wrong;
just like the same thing on real computers.
the clock in side is RTC time clock chip and needs power to work.
power = battery.
#1 all time failure on any portable device is batteries.

Where is the plugin on the rino 650 garmin

You need to use the AC adapter or specific vehicle charging cable to charge the rino series. They plug into a different port on the unit.

My rino 655t wont take a charge

That unit has a special charger and harness.

Very similar to the Motorola
The Rino 650 and 655t includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. If the battery is not charging, ensure the battery is secure and the device is connected via the included A/C charger. The battery will not charge when connected via USB cable.

My rino won't charge

Two things occur to me: possible damage to socket where charger connects to unit------or no voltage from charge source to the battery

A lot of the connectors where the unit connects to power are easily damaged.

I've got a pair of Garmin Rino 110 that we use when outdoors. Recently, with full batteries and clear skies in the desert, not surrounded by trees, mountains, buildings, etc... both of the Rino 110s...

  • That RINO should have no issues picking up satellite signals in the conditions you were in. If you were inside a building I may buy it but not in an open desert. Sounds like they are feeding you a line to me. I might try to get my money back on that one. One thing is for sure, you were in about the best conditions for using that unit. If it failed you then, it will more than likely fail you when your life may rely on it. It would seem that a different GPS/GMRS unit will be necessary to give you that security.

Power Switch will not turn my Rhino 530 HCx on

When I try to turn it on it comes up with the “rino” initialization screen and buzzes/vibrates at 5 second intervals. It never goes past this screen. Occasionally, for about 1 second a small white bar will appear across the bottom saying “0%. I’ve recharged the Li battery and got the same result. I’ve tried it while connected to the charger. Same result. I’ve tried using the optional 4 AA battery pack with fresh alkaline batteries. Same result. Did the factory reboot (page/enter/power buttons). Same – except instead of a buzz/vibrate I get the tone every 5 seconds. Have to remove battery to turn off.

Contacted Garmin tech support today (10/22) - hope to hear from them soon.

Garmin gps 296

If it does not show 'charging' when connected to power, then something may be wrong with the power cord. If it is the vehicle cord (the one with the cigarette lighter plug) check the fuse in the tip of the cord.
