If it is a store baught DVD, then you might not have the proper codecs installed to play the movie, sometimes windows media player does not come with them, you can download the free VLC media player from vlc.org. That would be an easy fix

There is no such thing as a specific driver for cd/dvd readers/burners. The operating system itself has suitable drivers for those devices.
However, it can be that the driver for the IDE/ATAPI-controllers is malfunctioning. If you have chipset drivers for the mainboard, reinstall them. Otherwise remove in the Device Manager the driver of the used IDE/ATAPI-controller and let the Device Manager search for the Microsoft Windows drivers and install them.
If your current device is CD-RW/DVD-ROM, then any CD-RW/DVD-RW device that you can purchase will _physically_ replace and will fit into the space occupied by your current device.
I have the same problem like you.one of the expert shared to me that my burner has faulted. I thing your problem is worse than mine cause I can still read cd rom vcd/ DVD files and movies. Just finfd new one that will give you quality output.
Your CD "Burn" laser or "Quadrant Detector" has "Faulted" a very common occurrence for these "Combo" drives,...So..I'm sorry but ya gonna haveta get another... as these ya can't fix. :(
