My CDA microwave oven, model CM5 apparently has a faulty capacitor. It appears to have a black scorch mark on it and looks like a tiny part of it has blown out?

This indicates capacitor failure either due to it "blowing" out or due to arcing.

The capacitor can be replaced if you can find a like for like one and feel confident in doing the repair.

Exercise caution however handling the old capacitor as even if it is defective, it is still possible it could hold some charge so discharge it though a 1 meg wirewound resistor to the chassis before handling the terminals.

The display on our Sharp Microwave oven went very dim. Everything else on it is still functioning perfectly. Will replacing part FPNLCB666WRKZ fix it? Is this something we can safely do ourselves?

not familiar with that exact model .if the display went gradually dim and has a green vacuum florescent display ,these suffer 3 problems ,worn out display ;glass on display and filter window dirty ;and failed capacitors, suggest before replacing module ,unplug and put plug iside door ,then safely remove the back then take photo of display panel wireing then remove it clean inside the plastic eindow of display and display tube glass window .visual look at pcb you will see several round blue capacitors .note the values and voltage of these i.e 470u/25v. go to maplin and obtain replacements ,yhen get a friend who can solder to replace them all making sure to mark pcb with black marker ajacent black negative line on capacitors to ensure correct polarity then refit pannel and test .if no improcement replace complete panell

Arched from recessed area next to light

Your description is a little vague. I am assuming that you are saying that the inside of the unit has black scorching marks near the area that the interior light bulb is housed. If that is the case then the coating on the inside of the microware is compromised. This is usually caused from food particles getting stuck the inside or it has become scratched. When this happens, the microwave will continue to spark in that area, This will result in further black marks and it will cause the entire unit to fail at its most expensive part, sooner. You can take care of this issue by cleaning the interior very well and then paint the inside again with microwave oven paint. It has to be special paint.

Fuse blew microwave

Sounds like a fault on the magetron power supply.

If you are confident enough to ground and discharge the main capacitor, check to see if it is faulty.

Check for arcing or scorch marks around the transformer and check the HV lines on the magnatron input for continuity.

If the capacitor has blown out, this can be replaced, however if the magetron or transformer is faulty this is a much more complicated repair and should only be done professionally.

Our Kenmore microwave started emitting odors and then quit

To figure out what is wrong with it, it will have to be removed from the wall, Then the top cover will have to be removed, then you can look for any swelled capacitors, burn marks on the circuit board or any shorted wires.
The power supply is most likely faulty . You can test the power with a voltmeter from power supply to main circuit board.

GE spacemaker xl1800 microwave "burnt paper" smell

Hey
There are several things you can do to help git rid of that smell
First get a mild cleaner with bleach (soft scrub ect!) and clean entire oven inside and try getting that scorch mark off! a little pressure should lessen it ! (there is no filter inside! The plastic inside covering holds smells for a long time! you can also put a cup of white vinigar inside warm on high for 1 minute and leave in overnight!
Please take a second and rate my response
