Hi,

As most devices of this nature, there could be several reasons for the heating up. Incidentally, the cutting off is a feature of the thermal protection and would of course come back soon as it has cool down.

Possibilities are:
1. clog, blockage, kinks in the intake (hose);
2. accumulated dirt/dust, clog in the filter;
3. seized bearings or lubrication has dried out;
4. partial short in the windings.

Repair would require:
1 & 2 cleaning and verifying no clogs, kinks or blockage. The filter may require replacement;
3. replacement of bearings or re application of appropriate lubricant;
4. motor replacement (or if available rewinding). Pls consider the cost of repair and down time. In most instances, cost of motor replacement/rewinding would not justify any repairs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,
It's work for a very much! Motor needs to be replaced! Motor rotor is in the end of his life! You can install some strong fan to keep him cool but that's not good solution it's only a suggestion!
Good luck

Will run for a few minutes, then red light comes on canister an unit shuts off.

That's the thermal cut off circuit. If the motor gets to hot it trips and shuts it off. When it cools down it will turn on again but it is generally an indicator of one of the following; the cone filter needs changed or the inner filter ring that sits above the motor inside the unit is shot. One is an easy change the other requires dis-assembly, better carried out by a vac tech if you aren't comfortable taking it apart. In the meantime remove the cap out of the top of the vacuum, that will let it exhaust heat better but I strongly recommend getting that filter ring changed.

My eureka multicycloning upright won't turn on.

There's a thermo-switch in the motor that cuts out if the motor gets too hot. If you wait 30 minutes it should reset and the vacuum can be turned back on.
If it doesn't reset after 30 minutes, your only recourse is to take it to a Eureka authorized service center for repair, or call Eureka at 1-800-282-2886.

Does not respond. Stopped working in the middle of vacuuming the couch. Notting seemed stuck in there. The reset botton does not respond

If the motor is still hot the reset button will not respond. Let it cool for maybe 30 minutes. Then press it.

I think my maxima got too hot and shut down. Is there a fuse that I may of blown that I can check or is the motor probably fried ? Thanks, Teri

The motor has a shut off when it gets too hot. Wait 30 minutes to an hour to turn it back on. The airway is blocked, causing motor to get hot. Check filter, clean it out, check hose for clog.

My Hoover Windtunnel cuts off after using it for a few minutes. After an hour or so, I can turn it back on again. This keeps happening every time I use it. This is my third one. I have taken the other two...

yes this machine has a thermal protector in it to shut off the machine if it gets to hot, this is normal. if there is no clogs in the hoses or in the machine then you will need to wash the filter at the top of the machine. you will have to remove the dirt cup and at the top you should see a half moon orange, well inside of this piece is the washable filter, clean and let it dry completly before putting back into machine. if this gets dirty and has not been cleaned, you can lose alot of suction. in some cases if this filter is not cleaned it can cause the machine to overheat so bad that it can damage the motor.

Flair motor shorting out?

There's a thermal cut-off when the unit has overheated. Mine does this quite often and I remedy it by emptying the canister and making sure the filter is clean, especially of lint and things that prevent good air flow.
