Did you install the drivers for this model? Did you run the install disk? Try hooking all up and turn it on while the computer is OFF the turn it on, it will have to recognize the printer then.

Lexmark 617 is failing communication with the computer

Please, I need a lot more help from you. What do you mean by "Failing communication"? Do you mean that when you attach the printer to the PC, the PC fails to see the printer? Try this, disconnect the printer from the PC. Using the Maintenance Utilities on the printer, print out a demo or a test page. This way we can establish whether or not the printer is functioning properly. If it worksw, connect the PC to the Printer and use the driver to send a test page to the printer. Please let me know if you still have a failure. By the way, I know this is a silly question and I don't mean to insult you, but are you sure the printer is plugged into a fully functioning power source? :) Don

Lexmark 1240...

With the Lexmark printers communication subsystem you MUST let the driver ask for you to plug in the printer. DO NOT plug the printer into the USB port until told to do so.

To fix a fouled install:
(1) Uninstall the Lexmark drivers in Add Remove Programs
(2) Shutdown the computer
(3) Disconnect the printer from the USB port
(4) Restart the computer
(5) Run the Driver Installation software
(6) Cancel ALL attempts by windows to auto install the printer
(7) When the software asks for the printer connect it and continue

My printer keeps saying that it is not communicating with the computer. I have a new computer, and a lexmark 3440 all in one printer. it says to enable biarectional commmunication setting in poper dialog....

ahh..a talking printer..nice upgrade..

do you have a current driver(other than the one that came on the disk, which MAY be obsolete)..

get a new one here(click on printer drivers and find the icon for Lexmark). then enter model number and find driver for your operating system.

un plug printer from computer..re install software. plug in printer as directed.
