Upper sise of screen flickering problem

Technology b> A laptop's display assembly consists of an LCD panel, an inverter board and a backlight lamp. The inverter board supplies power to the lamp which lights up the LCD screen as it generates images. Light from the lamp is then uniformly distributed over the panel to create images. b> Cause b> Flickering is commonly caused by a damaged or malfunctioning inverter. Because a faulty inverter is not able to supply adequate power to the backlight lamp, the screen goes dim each time the backlight loses power. In some cases, flickering may also be caused by a faulty connection between the inverter and backlight lamp. Diagnosis b> Resolving a laptop screen's flickering problem entails correctly diagnosing the problem and replacing the faulty component. You may diagnose the problem by hooking up the laptop to an external display unit, such as a projector. If the external display has the same display problem as the laptop's LCD screen, it is indicative of a motherboard or video card problem. If the external unit displays bright, crisp images, the problem is probably caused by the backlight or inverter. b> Solution b> You may repair a laptop screen's flickering problem by replacing the inverter board or backlight. Order parts from a trusted supplier and replace the component by referring to your product documentation. b> Hope this helps.

Sound, but no picture

the problem with your tv (if youve allready replaced the main board) is you have a backlight failure. the board that powers your backlights is called the inverter board. this board only comes with the panel itself and cannot be bought as a single item. if you have any more questions feel free to contact me....

I have an HP HDX 16-1025nr. My LCD got broke and I got a new one.Does anyone know if I can convert the dual lamp lcd to a single lamp? Im pretty proficiant at fixing desktops, but have very little laptop...

Hello Darrel,

Since you promise to repay with advice 10 fold....

Here are some issues you are going to face by changing from a dual lamp backlight to a single lamp.

1) The inverter is designed to drive 2 lamps. You will need to change the inverter as well, or make sure it is compatible with driving a single lamp.

2) Your display was designed for 2 lights originally, this is likely the only way that they were able to get reasonable brightness evenly over the display.

Until you get some more experience working on laptops, just stick to what should be there. As your skills improve, then you can start modifying.

I am guessing that you have discovered the cost difference between single and dual lamp LCDs panels. Bear in mind that those are for the assembly itself. Pull everything out, drop in an assembly. There are a few sources that sell just the LCD itself, and you will have to remove the back light assembly off the original. Again, your skills may not be up to this.

$400 sounds appropriate from HP, but a quick check over at and, though the latter doesn't feature your part#.

Also, here is a decent run through on how to do it:

Hi There, I've been experiencing the same setback as Kenneth. My lenovo 3000 flashed off and even if I boot it, the screen is still black. How ca I fix it?./ Ty

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out, usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

No backlight in my lcd but the whole laptop work properly,

Try to connect external monitor to your laptop then hit the short cut keys(see your manual)to use dual monitor. if you got screen on dual monitor. Try to check your laptop screen if something can still be view from screen, if you have then backlighting circuit is to be check. Practical solution is to bring it to a shop if you are not inclined on fixing it yourself.

Back light or inverter. my screen is black.

If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
