I am having the worst time trying to reset my canon mp160 ink level after I refilled both cartridges. I have tried every method of "hold the button down etc..." as well as trying to download mptool, but to no avail. Could someone please let me know if my hunt for a solution should continue? thanks so much! Liz

Disconnect the printer's outlet
Hold the Botton of power while connecting to the outlet
Holding down the power button pressed twice the reset button (red circle with a triangle)
Release the power button
The printer takes about 10 seconds into the show vaor numeroco zero.
Pressing + to the value moves from 0 to 1.
When this value to 1, press the button that is on par with reset, this will light up two lamps
One is that of plain papaer and the other of photo paper, at this point is put paper into the printer
Pressing the power button once or twice (it does not matter), the printer will print a proof sheet
When you print this sheet the value in the display returns to zero, leaving it well
Open scan cover (to remove the cartridges but was not removed), with the lid open faith disconnect the power to printer
Remove the cartridge, close the lid and turn on the printer.
Re-positioned and Refill cartridges in the printer and READY.

Try the steps found on this site, How to reset your canon mp160. It has helped with my own canon printer, it has steps procedures with specific error messages.

How does one rest ink chip on Canon Prixma MP 980?

I believe you have to press resume to get the non chipped carts to work.At this time there ar no resets available other than the resume.
You will void your warranty.
Call Canon and tell them the printer is not working and take advantage of your 1 year warranty and only use Canon inks from now on or until reset is available.
If you want you can mention that you USED non Canon ink.

I refilled the color cartridge. The light that indicates lack of ink didn?t stop blinking. After a couple of prints, the second light for black ink also started blinking and now the printer doesn?t print...

You can try to press & hold the stop/reset button for 3-5 seconds.
If this still do not clear.
Again try to press & hold the stop/reset button for 3-5 seconds

If the stop/reset button does not work
You may try pressing the color button

Reset ink level on CANON MP 140 PIXMA PRINTER

How to reset the Canon MP150 after a refill (Step 10 concerns refill; instructions below the steps):
Method1 (Safe Factory Method):
1) Disconnect the printer’s power outlet
2) Press and hold the power button while connecting the power outlet back.
3) While still holding down the power button, press the reset button twice.(red circle with a triangle)
4) Release the power button
The printer takes about 10 seconds to show the number 0.
5) Press + to change the value from 0 to 1.
6) When this value is 1, press colour button; this will light up two leds.
One is for plain paper and the other for photo paper. At this point is feed the printer with paper.
7) Press the power button twice and the printer will print a some stuff (if it doesn't print by itself, then press the "color" button once and the test sheet will print). Don’t worry much about the printed material. I got some stripped lines and some numbers. I believe that my colour cartridge is clogged which is why I got the green strips.
When you print this sheet the value in the display returns to zero.
8 ) Open the printer cover cover (not the scanner cover) and remove the cartridges. With the printer still open, disconnect the power outlet.
9) Close the lid and turn on the printer.
10) Refill cartridges and place them back in their nice little abode in the printer.

  3. Hold POWER and release RESUME
  4. Press RESUME twice
  5. Release POWER button

  7. Press POWER to set data
