Acer Aspire T650 PC

I have an Acer aspire T650 pc. The pc does not boot and continually reboots. Will not even boot in safe mode. I checked the HDD on another machine and repaired xp installation. It works fine on the other machine but does not on the Acer. I have checked all the connections and slots, nothing has worked. Could this be a driver problem or more serious like the motherboard. Any help is appreciated.

Where can I buy a new motherboard of the same make and spec?

When you switch ON the pc, there is a blue screen which quikly flashes and then goes to the page where options on selecting, ie safe mode, start normally, etc., choose any and it does not make any difference and then goes back to the boot screen and this is repeated in a contiunious cycle, however there is a quick burst of the cpu fan speeding up momentarly.

The blue screen is just a quick flash, too quick to see the details. Using Win xp pro.

The machine does boot from cd, copies files and after I accept (F8), the next screen tells me that no hard drive is attached to the machine. I know the hard drive works as I have already tested it on another machine. The hard drive is present when you go into bios.

Does this indicate that there is a problem with the mother board? If it is the motherboard? why does the cd work Or could it be that the motherboard is only partially working.

Could it be the psu? I am going to change the psu, just to make sure it ok. I also intend to connect the SATA hard drive via the IDE connection.

    Your comments are appreciated.

Comment by Kevin A, posted on Mar 13, 2008 The reason for this is that the standard XP disks do not have drivers for the SATA disk. When booting from the CD, the internal disk is not recognised and thus invisible to the XP setup program.

I contacted Acer and I was told in order to eliminate a software problem I should carry out a Disk2Disk recovery. I tried this and the problem was solved. No cd's were required, all I had to do was press ALT and F10 when the machine is switched on. This takes you to the recovery part. The machine than recovers to factory settings. Carry out the necessary updates and Bob's your uncle!

My thanks to Kevin and the rest of the team.

I have this same computer and had some problems like this with it in the beginning and it turned out to be the 56K modem... it was bad and since I didn't need it anyways, I just took it out and the computer has worked fine ever since... over a year now! Perhaps you're having the same problem? Or maybe another component is bad? That's where I would start... I'm curious to know if this helps you... e-mail me at if this helps or if you need further info.

What exactly is the computer doing when you try to boot it and it reboots?

What does the blue screen say? Which version of Windows are you using?

  • Kevin Miller Mar 13, 2008

You said you have tested this hard drive on another machine; have you tested the other hard drive on this machine? Does it work? It sounds like you may have a bad connection to the hard drive from the motherboard. I am not sure why the BIOS recognizes the drive is connected and the Windows XP disc does not. If you are asking if the CPU is bad, it's possible, but I would check the drive connection first and see what happens.

In order to get out of safe mode, just reboot the computer. It will usually boot up in normal mode after reboot. If it continues to reboot into safe mode, then you might have a hardware problem or software problem.

Acer Aspire One - blue screen only when try to boot

You may have to remove and reset the HDD and Memory on the unit.
Next, you will recv. the F-2 to continue or F-12 to enter setup.
Enter setup and change date and time.
Save and try.
You may have a damaged HD or boot partition and reloading the operating system will be necessary.

Reseating the HD will assure that you have a good connection and the same with the memory.

Also, if the unit has been dropped, you may have a damaged HD and may need to change it.

Acer Aspire Memory problem

The read speed of your new memory is not compatible with your motherboard. It is a higher rate than allowed. The reason why it works when you have one of your old chips installed is because your PC will automatically drop the higher rate chip down to the one that is working. The reason it does not drop both new chips down to a suitable rate is because it has nothing to guide it like your compatible chip does. Always check the MHz on RAM chips and compare that with the acceptable rates listed on your motherboard specs. The good news is you can probably sell those chips and have money left over when you find upgraded compatible memory that is sure to be cheaper since it is slower.

Having problem installing Windows XP on My Acer Aspire T650 Computer

Before you did the install did you make sure that you set your CMOS setting to check for a cd disk first before booting straight to the hard drive? When you do an install, you must make sure that the computer knows to look for a bootable disk otherwise it will look for an operating system to boot to first. If this is the problem, after you have installed your operating system you must go back and reset your CMOS settings to look for a hard drive or operating system. Hope this help and if it doesn't let me know for further assistance.

My Acer aspire 5100

If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run. When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode. Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots. Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
