Question about Kenmore 25512/ 25513 Progressive Canister Vacuum

Carpet attachment attachment appears to have poor/intermittent connection. When initiated, it works for <30 seconds before shutting down. Suction still works but carpet attachment doesn't. Near impossible to restart.

Carpet attachment stopped working. The lower plug seems to be the problem. I order a replacement lower wand with cord, new bottom and top plug. After attaching the new wand it worked but only for two start-ups, then the attachment stopped all together. Could the problem be the female plug on the attachment itself? If so, do I need to purchase a whole new carpet attachment or can that plug be replaced? What's my next step?

I love these vacuums, but I have went through two of them and the same thing happens over time.........the vacuum works but the plug that goes into the power head goes bad.......I never leave the switch for power head on when plugging and unplugging ........granted.....I vacuum every day for 2 years and its around the 2 year mark on the last two I've owned when the connections start going on the powerhead.......I've also read other complaints about this exact same thing.......people give these vacuums great reviews because they're performance/features are great but this part of the machine is obviously a design flaw........I'm not rough on this machine at all......I don't **** it around and misuse it.....I use it as it should be used but this quick release plug either on the handle itself or the bottom of the wand goes bad......

I have same problem. The problem appears to be the female connector which is built into the Handle Assembly. It's pretty Burnt. I'm assuming this connector is part of a wiring harness but I can't figure out the part number for it from the schedmatic.

Mine became intermittant so I took apart the exteding wand section. I found that power is transmitted to the cleaning head through a ribbon cable which was damaged (burnt) from repeatedly adjusting the length of the wand. A new wand correct the problem but I will no longer adjust the length and I hope that this will extend the life of the assembly.

Check the plug ends at the top of the wand and the plug going into the hose handle, also at the bottom of the wand. It sounds like they may be burnt, if so they will need to be replaced. One cause of these connections going bad is not turning the power head off when connecting or disconnecting. Therre are other causes, the switch in the handle is going bad, also some of these cannisters have a relay mounted by the vac motor, sometimes they go bad.

No suction.

Poor suction can be caused by obstructions, poor air flow or a compomise in the air flow (hole in the hose). Since you have started with that I would next look at all filters and clean them. First check for suction at the motor, then at accessory hose and then the base. this will lead you to a suction issue. If your baelt has not been replaced in the last 6-12 mo I would change that too. check to make sure your carpet setting is coorect for the carpet being cleaned.

No suction for upholstery hose

http://www.hoover.com/pdfs/manuals/F5914900.pdf try priming your hose

Before using tool
It may be necessary to remove air from
the system (“prime the pump”) so the
clean solution will flow to the tool. Follow
these steps:
1. Attach tool to hose and turn the carpet
cleaner ON.
2. Put the tool on a hard surface or
against your hand to block off the suction.
3. Wait a few seconds (can take up to
15 seconds). Then squeeze the trigger
and begin cleaning.
Follow the instructions on pages 14 and
15 for the appropriate cleaning task.

My DC21 Floor tools keeps shutting off on its own.

You say the floor tool keeps shutting off. The key question is: what do you have to do to get it going again? There are electrical connections at both ends of the hose, and poor contact there can cause the tool to work intermittently - in which case you will find that just moving the hose will cause the tool to switch on and off. You can't do much about these connections other than have a look to see if they appear damaged. Make sure the hose is fully attached at both ends. If this doesn't help, please post again giving more details.

My hoover steam vac

OKay! I've figured it out! After making sure I had the cleaning solution container connected properly, the "lint filter" thingy clear, the attachment plug thingy unplugged, the filter in it's proper position, (about a cm down from the seal), and the seal on the filter was all good, etc etc etc, the brushes in properly...I was about to drive over this steam cleaner with my car!

After taking a break and going back to it, I discovered that I didn't have the lid to my dirty water tank (or air tank, as I was starting to call it) properly closed. There are two lips that you have to make sure the lid "hinges" from, and THEN snap the lid shut. This made a seal that allowed this steam cleaner to **** up all kinds of gooey gunk from my carpets! The brushes work, the suction works, it's a FABULOUS machine! It doesn't get any louder when it's sucking up water, either.

All this AND I had the instructions! Go figure!

No suction when carpet cleaning. Also won't stand upright

Its possible that it may be blocked in the foot of the vaccum. try going through your instruction manual to locate details on how to disassemble the suction brush and connecting ducts. If you dont have one then use this link to download it. http://ubermanuals.com/node/1870

Let me know how you got on

Burning smell/lost suction

Is the brush roll turning while on the carpet. If the belt is old, then it has stretched and will slip causing a rubber smell. But if it is an electrical smell, then your motor is failing and will need to be replaced.

Poor suction on carpet

Did you check to see if brush is spinning ,
is belt broken? It could be something stuck
in the mechanism in the impeller, shute, etc
