Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Recovery disc toshiba satellite m55. I inserted the recovery disk so I could erase the laptop's brain and start over (It had major issues). I inserted the disc and it has now come to a black screen that says Starting Windows 98 Windows is bypassing your startup files Miscrsoft (R) Windows 98 A:\> It has been sitting at this screen for a while and I don't know what to do. What is odd is that this computer has Windows XP so i was wondering if I was given the wrong disc. I bought it new so that seems strange as well.

that sounds like a boot disk. The disk you are referring to ... is it a cdrom or a floppy disk?

You should have received a recovery cdrom when you purchased the computer. If you did not receive one I recommend contacting them to get one.

Does the cd say Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility ? Or what is the exact wording on the cd? Sounds like what they sent you was a Recovery Utility that you use to create a Recovery Disk.

Try this ... if the recovery files are on the HDD you can access them.
    1. Shut down computer
2.Hold down the zero(0) key and turn on the computer while holding that key.
    3. When the computer boots you should be at the Recovery screen with the option to Restore the Original Factory Installation.
    Good Luck

How to restore toshiba labtop with no disc

Hello

Well, if you have no Installation disc, or no cd/dvd rom in this specific model, you should have a recovery partition.

To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.

Note that this erases all data, and reloads all factory default software. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!

If this procedure doesn't work, you don't have a recovery partition set up, hence, you will need the installation disc.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

Toshiba A300 Satellite Laptop, major crash. Tried to enter safe mode but F8 key doesn't work, just beeps. Have recovery disk. When I insert and go to boot options, then choose cd/dvd i am able to go to...

No, but you could try the chkdsk command: - make sure you're on the C: drive or the drive which carries windows. Enter CHKDSK (Checkdisk) it will check your HDD for errors even try to repair them. Because it looks like you may have a disk failure.

Toshiba Satellite L305-S5875; Recovery Error 10-fc12-045d HELP!!

no it is not fried. you just need to find a vista disk and use that instead of the recovery disks. Once you reinstall Vista you should be able to go online for the Toshiba drivers. Make sure you have the windows Vista Key which should be located under the laptop. the vista software install will ask for it.

I have a satellite U300 toshiba computer and i'm on the boot menu

Hi,
If your just wanting to boot into Windows then choose 1. HDD Toshiba.
If your wanting to reinstall the operating system with your recovery disks then you will need disk 1 in the CD drive and when the menu comes up choose 3. CD/DVD.

I have just purchased a HP 2133 mini-note. On first installation, installation failed and now it just loops and wont do anything. How can I facilitate first installtion bearing in mind there are no disks...

The majority of these PCs have a recovery partition on the internal hard drive, here is the instructions for using it.
Recovering information using Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)
Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) can perform a recovery from either an optional external hard
drive or from recovery discs.
CAUTION: Using Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) will completely erase hard drive contents
and reformat the hard drive. All files you have created and any software installed on the computer will
be permanently removed. When reformatting is complete, the recovery process will restore the operating
system, as well as the drivers, software, and utilities from the backup used for recovery.
To initiate recovery using WinRE, follow these steps:
NOTE: This process will take several minutes.
1. If possible, back up all personal files.
2. Restart the computer, and then press f8 before the Windows operating system loads.
3. Select Repair your computer.
NOTE: The "Repair your computer" option is displayed only if the WinRE partition is intact. If the
option is not displayed, refer to “Recovering information using a Windows Vista operating system
DVD (purchased separately).”
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
5. Click Next.
6. Select your user name, type your password (if applicable), and then click OK.
7. If you are using recovery discs, insert the last disc of the recovery disc backup set.
NOTE: Inserting the last disc of the backup set confirms the presence of a valid backup. If you
insert any other disc, the backup will not be recognized.
– or –
If you are using an optional external hard drive, connect it to the computer.
8. Click Windows Complete PC Restore.
9. Follow the on-screen instructions.

this is getting long , so ill will post more steps in comment.....

ERROR INSTALLING PREINST3.SWM

The work around for this is to take the Toshiba restore disk and do a dvd copy disk to disk and use the copies to restore the computer. I had the same problem and the disk would not read correctly. I called Toshiba and they were no help. I saw a post on another web log and they suggested copying the origianl restore disks. They copies ran without a problem.

Need to do system recovery on philips freevent x53 problem damaged recovery disk

best not to use a recovery disc as they will erase alot of info, see if you can find a windows disc and use your code off your sticker, when you insert the disc, it will ask if you want to go to recovery mode, say no, go to fresh install and when it says you already have windows ask it to fix the current install, 90% of the time this works
