Question about Panasonic DMR-T2020 DVD Recorder
This machine is supposed to record to DVD+R/RW however I've just bought a spindle of panasonic DVD+RW 4.7g and when i insert the disc it won't recognise them and says 'disc unknown' I've tried 3 out of the 10. I wonder if my machine is broken. It will record to DVD-R sometimes and then not play them back. We have had it over a year but only just started trying to use it. Thanks
Your unit may be fubar. OR, it is possible that your unit is not compatible with the media you are using - try different brand to draw conclusions and be guided accordingly.

I am surprised to hear that after you replaced the IC, machine is now dead.
I think you should check your soldering, use a magnifying glass to see if you have not broken a track or shorted something.
There are some small parts surface mounted under the board near this chip.
Next , check other soldering , especially on the chopper transformer.
Third, check if you have connected the supply output connector correctly and no pins are bent.

Bought my DMR E-50 from a boot fair for a tenner, with a broken door flap, which I repaired. It records and plays perfectly, but likes Philips and Verbatim DVD-R and Panasonic RAM for recording. As above, you can't use DVD-RW in this machine.

this unit has an optical-eye, not recording heads. opening the drawer then unplugging unit will expose the eye. never look into the eye when unit has power. this x-ray can and will burn your owh eyes lens&retina. good luck. clean with 90% isopropyl alcohol and q-tip. mch

There maybe a problem with the optic lens (dirt) try to clean it very gently with cotton, also the motor plate that holds the cd/dvd is not holding it very well so it not rotates at proper speed try to clean the both sides where the hole of the cd/dvd is when it´s inserted, if you think that you migth not have skills for that don´t do it.
Hope it help
