I have the same problem with my 3200, (1) power on, (2) green light on, (3)no noise, (4) no work. Went to my computer, clicked manage, found yellow question mark and it said (code 10) Used Driver Detective to scan for problems and it said no driver installed for this device. Has anyone brought there Maxtor back to life? I have about 50,000 pictures I would like back.

My computer cannot recognize my Maxtor Personal Storage 3200. I've had it for about 10 months now. Everything was fine until yesterday. The power light is on but there is not noise coming from the drive. It is not recognized by my lap top either. Again I've not had any other problems with this drive. I really need the info on it. I'm writing my first novel and it's on this drive. Please, help me!!!!

Has anyone found the WindowsXP-KB908673-x86-ENU Hotfix Package that n2d2 was talking about? I think I found it and downloaded it, but I can't seem to find it to run it. So I really need some help here.

I have had a Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 for about a year now. I have all my pictures and music saved on it. Earlier this week, it stopped working. I cannot get my computer to recognize the device. In the device manager, it just says "device unknown." I tried to download a new driver from Maxtor's website, but that didn't work either. Help!!

I had a similar problem with my pc( OS=XP SP2) with the same external drive model. I was able to solve it by downloading and installing WindowsXP-KB908673-x86-ENU Hotfix Package from Microsoft Corporation. I hope it works for you.

My Maxtor 3200 has a gren light that is now blinking and the computer cannot start the drive. Code 10. What does this mean?

I had this problem. I learned that the power supply was defective. You can purchase a 12V 2amp power supply. This solved my problem. My green light was coming on but my computer didn't recognize the drive and I got the same Code 10 cannot start drive. I purchased a 12V 3amp power supply. It doesn't hurt to have more amps but you need at least 2amps.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 - flashing green light.

Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Maxtor 3200 personal storage will not load on my computer or any computer tried 2 other laptops - it was working but had to turn off desktop computer due to storm & then when computer was turned back...

Did you unplug the power supply for the computer and external drive seperately or simply turn off the computer? If the lights do not com on as expected for the Maxtor drive then the power supply for the drive may have been damaged. If the do it may just be an untimely failure in the drive. Did you shutdown the computer via windows or just "pull the plug" when it started storming? Fill me in on these details and I will help you narrow down the source of the problem. Chris

Maxtor 3200 power indicator lights but computer won't recognize

ooooh, that sucks.

I assume you have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Have you tried to see if it will work on a different computer?

I hop you had it all backed up.
If nobody else's suggestion beat mine...then I give you 2 options.
You have to take it apart (might have to break the shell, since most aren't designed to be user friendly), once you have the actual hard drive out of its housing, open up the side of your computer, and hook it up.
it will have to diferent connection points. One will be power (thats the plug that has (i believe) 4 pins in it...hook that up so your drive has power...the other plug is for data (read/write), its either a sata or ide (depending on how they (maxtor) made it). I assume you dont know what sata or ide is...just google pics it...once you see a picture...you'll know.

anywho, once its hooked up...start you computer back up (FYI, when you do this 'operation', shutdown your pc...and then unplug it)
once you have it all done and loaded back into windows, it should automatically detect it (give it a few minutes).

that scenerio I just laid out for you, is assuming its anything but a hard drive issue.

if it is indeed a hard drive issue....then apart from sending to to some VEEEERY expensive palce that could extract the data for you. theres only one more option. Put the hard drive in the freezer for several hours, then take it back out and hook it up to you computer, if it detects it...move fast, and start transfering all your files off it...cause now its living on borrowed time.

the reason this works **sometimes**, is because of the hard drives heat, its its platter actually expands over time a (very very very tiny bit), enough to mess it up, and when its chillin in your frezzer, the platters contract a little bit...making you able to get your data back...hopefully.

hope all goes well.
