Jeff Phelps,
You can try to reboot into safe mode (by pressing or tapping the F8 key on boot), and running an antivirus scan, and other diagnostics, if it will, or just select "Safe Mode" from the screen you're on and let us know if Windows boots. If you haven't yet tried "Last known good configuration", then you may want to select and try that first.
Good luck.

Format the hard drive and re install an Operating System. Nothing like a clean, fresh start.

When the System comes back on in Safe Mode, all unnecessary utilities are shut down or do not work, such as your speakers or the sound. If you open Safe Mode with Networking, than you are connected to a Network, but you still can only do a few tasks that Safe Mode allows. After you restart your computer and run it normally, than all functions will return to their normal operations, including your speakers and sound.

My labtop came to a boot up screen that has the options: safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, and start windows normally. i have windows xp....

Hello xderekhx716, to choose the [least] likely {Mode} in order not to "Lose any Data," you want to choose; "Start Windows in Safe Mode." If an incident 'occur' before this 'window' [Popped-Up], then you want to "Start the Computer in {Safe Mode}. This 'way if you have been "Infected by a 'Virus' or any of the Computers Configurations have been 'changed,' or "Windows Shut Down 'Unexpectedly' than Safe Mode is the 'choice,' because the; least amount" of Operating Systems, applications will be deployed at "Startup," ie. Drivers, Programs... This will 'protect' the System' from further 'damage', if there was any? You will have the opportunity to analyze the situation safely. Next, if the Computer is having 'problems' starting, or the "Operating System is not 'responding' or there is "no change, than a "message" will identify the 'still' remaining problem; "Starting Normally." Then you want to 'choose,' start Windows at the "Last Known Good Configuration" also known as "System Restore." Finally, if this was just a "simple "Shut-down?" Than, "Starting Windows Normally" is OK! Follow all the instructions "carefully" in any of the "Modes" you may need to [Choose]. I hope this information is helpful? Thanks for using FixYa, paul7of9"

I cannot boot up laptop it says control alt delete then nothing

You need to try booting in Safe Mode with Networking and if that fails then Last known good configuration should work. Below are the steps to perform Last known good configuration howver Safe mode with networking is also an option under "windows Advanced option". Now if you succeed logging in to Safe mode with networking then try performing system restore by going to Start....All Programs....System Tools and System restore.

Follow the steps below,

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Last know good configuration".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.
Step 6: your PC will boot to the windows.

My compaq Presario V6000 will not start windows, it continously loops to an options screen with the following start options; Safe mode, safe made with networking, Safe mode prompt command,Windows last...

what you are describing is the blue screen of death, meaning theres a hardware or software problem, try to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore, if that doesn't work use your XP cd, let it load the drivers and the ask it to fix the existing XP installation, anything that you have saved in my documents should be safe and the problem should be solved. If the blue screen reappears then you have a hardware problem

Laptop won't comeback on

Try safe mode.

On safe mode return the computer to an earlier date configuration.

At some point will ask if you want to do that. And say yes.

Make sure that if for some some reasons it asks you to restore the computer to factory settings, you should say no. I hope you can do this.
