Check that the clutch is working properly and that your gearbox is full of the correct grade of oil. Usually a thinner grade makes selection easier.

The clutch probably needs to be tightened up a bit that is if you can i dont know if it has a cable or is hydralic
if it has a cable then tighten it untill you have a little free play you can feel when you depress clutch pedal
if hydrolic then you may have air in system or master/slave cylinder may be going bad
also if you have recently had the gear oil changed they may have put in to thick an oil or the wrong type

Transmission does not downshift to 1st at a stop in D but manually selecting 1st works

It sounds like you are having an issue with your transmission not downshifting to first gear when you come to a stop. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including a problem with the transmission control module, a malfunctioning shift solenoid, or a problem with the transmission itself.
Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the transmission fluid level and condition. If the fluid is low or dirty, it could be causing the transmission to malfunction.
  2. Check the transmission control module for any stored trouble codes. These codes can provide valuable information about the root cause of the problem.
  3. Inspect the shift solenoids for any visible damage or debris. If the solenoids are damaged or clogged, they may not be functioning properly.
  4. If none of these suggestions resolve the issue, it may be necessary to have a professional mechanic diagnose and repair the problem. They will have the necessary tools and expertise to properly diagnose and fix the issue with your transmission.

BMW E46 ZF 5HP19 trouble code P1732 P0733 P0734. My car only has 110K miles, transmission fluid has just replaced. It was dark, dirty, not burned, has some sludge but no metal shavings. After driving for...

Yes, this could be the shift solenoid. Was the transmission filter changed at the same time as the fluid? Dirt in the system can affect some of the transmission sensors tripping Trouble codes. I cannot be sure what the P1732 code is as some codes can be very vehicle specific but it appears to refer to the transmission or on of it's sensors.

P0733 - Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio.
P0734 - Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio.

I race my 2005 Chrysler Sebring 2.7 on a short race track and I’m trying to keep the tranny from shifting out of first gear

Fitting a manual transmission would be favourite or you could ask an auto expert to doctor the existing transmission. Trouble is you can't do much without causing lots of fault codes.

Remember reading somewhere, professional bi-directional diagnostic software can change the transmission parameters and even select and hold a particular gear...
It was a warning that was attached to some software that advised users to be careful not to select a low gear while travelling at high speed as it would cause embarrassing and lengthy interviews with irate customers...

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue that starts up,changes gears but won't move,Just got the axle fixed,Could it be the transmission?

Manual transmission? Clutch is shot. auto transmission? would make a lot of noise, especially changing gears. Input or output shaft is broken.

I have a lexus is 250 with a tiptronic auto box when im coming downhill the car is hunting/jerking and never done it before.the gearbox is smooth but when you drive on the highway for a long time and

read the owners manual on the operation of a tiptronic box. It will probably state that the manual selection of the box is for keeping the gear box in set gears to prevent unnecessary gear changing. So when going down hill select a gear manually and that will use the engine braking capability instead of up shifting as the rpms increase
It is fun to use the tiptronic as a manual box but that is not the real purpose of the transmission design.. IT is to lock the transmission into certain gears to prevent unnecessary up and down shifting of the transmission

Crysler. 300 Year2006.... transmisson will not change gears

this sounds like a torque converter going bad

first, check and examine the transmission fluid. the fluid should be a bright, transparent red. if it is darker, has any metal specs, a grey and or crimson look, and, especially if it smells almost fishy, you should change the transmission fluid immediately, check for any metal shavings (have a SHOP do this), and hope that this gives you an extra few months.

if the fluid is just low, top it off. be sure to check the manual for the trans fluid check procedure, as some cars need to the level checked when running, and others, when off, or cold.

if there are no issues with the transmission fluid, there may be a physical linkage gone bad between your gear select lever/handle and the transmission. the latter is more prevalent with column shifters

My 2004 audi s4 makes gronchy noise when i put it in to 2nd gear when cold whats causing it?

If I've understood your problem correctly.....when changing from 1st gear into second the box is giving a metal on metal crunching sound?
  • This would be the syncromesh ring which is not equalizing the speed correctly.
  • The problem usually happens when there is wear on the same part.
  • Check to make sure that the correct transmission fluid has been used in the box.
  • To alleviate the problem and delay the time when it will require attention, use the double de- clutch method of changing gears, especially when the transmission is cold.
  • The double de-clutch is carried out in the following way.
  1. When in gear and changing from 1st gear to 2nd, change into neutral and release the clutch and then depress again before selecting 2nd gear....It is not required to rev the engine in the neutral position when changing up....
  2. When changing down rev the engine when the shift lever is in neutral for each change.
You'll soon get the hang of it and stop the crunching sound, protecting the box at the same time....

DTC # 1 P1249 Code

P1249 does NOT appear in any of my charts or troubleshooting information. The codes in the P1200 section are for fuel delivery/mixture.
Are you sure that code P1249 was present?
It is unlikely that an engine trouble code on a Powerstroke would affect the transmission operation. R, 1 and 2 are manually selectable gears. If your trans won't shift into 3rd(direct) when in Drive, there may be a problem with the direct clutches and/or sprag clutch. This is a big problem area with your series of transmission. How many transmisions have you gone through so far? I've known quite a few people who have gone through 3 or 4 transmissions before the truck ever hit 60K miles, especially the 2001's. There are many updates available for your transmision and the Ford dealer may not know about a lot of them because they are strictly aftermarket, and they work!
