Question about Televison & Video

Toshiba TP55D80 rear projection has sunburn

I have a Toshiba TP55D80 rear projection TV. The set had been working
untill a couple of weeks ago, albeit with an orange-red cast and a slighly soft picture. It was turned on one day, and the sound was still working, but there
was no picture. The entire screen was red.

Even a relativley small LCD set is on the expensive side. I had been
thinking in terms of a 32" or 37" of which there are a couple of brands that would cost just under $1000.

Would it make sense to fix it? The size is better than what I would want
to spend in a new set.

Thanks.

    I hear you!

However, Id be curious to know what
you would cite as the probable cause of the failure.
Also, would you know what section of the yellow pages I should look at to find someone to haul it away?

    Thanks

Thanks. Actually, as cause of failure I had meant which component. Just guessing myself
as to the source of the color shift some months ago I had been looking at the price
of projection lamps and saw that they were expensive.

Thanks. I don't intend to repair the unit. I'm just curious.

well, even if I was on your doorstep, I'd need lab level diagnostics in my briefcase. Doing it online, through a chat would be an Act of God(smiling)..hope you find this good enough to rate when you're done.

Picture Problems!!! TOSHIBA TP55D80 REAR PROJECTION TV.

Look up your user manual, it sounds like your zoom feature has been activated to the max. I have a Zenith backlit LCD TV and it has a zoom feature you control from your remote. You could open up your on screen menu and find the place to reset the TV to factory settings that should clear up the problem.

Most TV repair shops have a warranty 30, 60, or 90 days. Call him back. You probably have a convergence IC failing or a resistor changing value in the green convergence output circuit.

Resetting convergence daily on Toshiba 43h70

Hi Mark, tough call without putting a scope to the circuit, either the convergence IC`s are going bad, signal from DCU is going bad (digital convergence unit), or possibly bad solder somewhere in the convergence circuit, I`m afraid your going to need a tv tech for that problem, BMW Rider
