For the 7720 do NOT remove the keyboard! It is not neccesary.

Open the bottom cover by removing 4 screws. Insert a screw driver in the provide notch being very careful not to stick it into the elctronics and gently pry upwards. The cover will release from the center, the tabs are much shorter there. Carefully release the old memory by pressing outward on the silver tabs that hold the memory in. Be sure that the new memory is seated properly before pushing down on the opposite edge.

Is there a 'how to upgrade memory acer AOD255E-13405' download somewhere?

If you are talking about increasing the RAM, there usually a little panel on the underside of the laptop accessed by two screws, remove these and replace the chip. Make sure the laptop is off and batter out.

Cant find ram chips in a Toshiba Satellite A45-S151

The memory is under the keyboard on this laptop. You should be able to pry up the keyboard with a small screwdriver between the keyboard bezel and the keyboard itself.

Be very careful not to break the wires connecting the keyboard to the internals of the computer.

I hope this helps.

The Numeric keypad on my Acer Aspire 7720 doesn't work. When I press Num Lock key the indicator light doesn't come on. The main keyboard works fine. I am using Vista.

try to access command prompt outside of windows using the operating system disc. (by booting to cd and go to repair your computer options then select command prompt) if the keyboard works fine on command prompt, there's no issue with the hardware. but if it still doesnt work, you will need to replace the keyboard.

Acer Travelmate 270 Memory Upgrade

Acer TravelMate 270 upgrades:

The official upgrade slot is located on the bottom of the laptop and is easy to find. Just unscrew the small cover and there it is.

The other slot requires you to unscrew the two screen bracket screws. Once you have done this, between ESC and F1, F4 and F5 and F12 and PrtSc there are small plastic rings. Put a biro nib into these and pull down. They will pop down. You can now remove the plastic cover.
Unscrew the two screws marked "L9" on the bottom of the laptop which are located at the top of the memory cover. Now you can remove the keyboard. Underneath the keyboard is the second RAM slot. The SiS 650 chipset supports a max of 1GB per memory slot and since this laptop has two slots that means 2GB of RAM. I've used Kingston DDR400 PC 3200 SODIMMS.

You can also upgrade the CPU - the fastest CPU available is the Pentium-M 2.6GHz. Nothing faster will work - trust me on this. It must be a Pentium 4 Northwood architecture CPU with a 400MHz FSB. Standard P4 Northwood CPUs with the metal shim won't fit - unless you know a way of removing the shim without destroying the CPU. Best to stick with a Pentium mobile (Pentium 4 M) chip. Look on Ebay for these.

Of course the hard disk can also be upgraded - a 200GB 7200RPM 2.5" drive works a treat. Non SATA of course.

You can add wireless and USB 2.0 using PCMCIA carbus cards. I use a StarTech 54mbps wireless card with the RAlink chipset and a NEC USB 2.0 card with 4 USB ports. Both cards fit in at the same time.

The laptop absolutely flies with these upgrades.

Need instruction on how to install memory upgrade

First you have to determine whether this model can support 4Gb or memory.

All laptops use the same memory. SODIMM (Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module) chips are readily available. It's actually quite easy to upgrade. First remove the small piece of the casing that covers the top part of the keyboard. This should just snap off. Then you should find some screws holding the top of the keyboard to the case. Once you remove these, the keyboard will easily pop out. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable connector leading to the keyboard. Then you should have access to the RAM chips.

Therefore, the only tool you really need is a small phillips screwdriver. Be careful when handling the chips.

Laptop keyboard replacement

I had the same problem ... spilled a drink on my keyboard causing the keys to stick

Symptoms:
1) Internet explorer browser always jumps to top of page even when trying to scroll page down
2) Windows explorer can't select any items except the top or upper most item or folder ... top item always stays selected

Solution:
Fortunately, the keyboard is pretty easy to access. According to the service manual ...
1) Unplug the power cord from the wall and laptop
2) Remove the battery pack
3) Remove the lid covering the hard disk drive
4) Remove the hard disk drive and bracket assembly
5) Remove the 2 screws from the battery compartment
6) Unsnap the "Middle Cover" ... that's the small panel between the keyboard and LCD that has the power button located on it
7) The keyboard can now be gently lifted out

Download the User Manual ... SG_AS7720_7720G_BOOK.pdf ... click on the very small, almost hidden, looks like a legal disclaimer, link near the bottom of the page labeled, "Save file to your PC: click here" ...
