Bios messes with drive size

posted by hbastedo on Mar 11, 2008

This is a wierd problem. I am running a pentium 4 with 256 megs of ram and Windows XP Pro for an OS. I have 2 Western Digital hard drives in the machine with 1 CD Rom and 1 DVD rewritable. The boot drive is a 40 gig and the second drive is a 320 gig. Both drives function perfectly until I install the Promise Ultra100, hook up a drive to the Promise card and it installs its own bios. On boot the first drive seems to load fine. The second drive seems to be recognized with the proper parameters, but when Windows finally loads the second drive is not only reported to have only 128 gigs, but it says it is not formatted. The drive is reported as empty. I have installed the latest bios, I think it is 2.20.0 or something close to that. Any ideas why it seems to mess with the drive specs?
I have the same problem.
