Question about Asrock K7S41 Motherboard

ASRock motherboard, pc hangs on xp login screen

My ASRock motherboard is recognising the hard drive, cdrom, ram, floppy but has the cd rom as the main ide drive. It will load to a point but hangs on the xp screen, i have changed the cmos battery with no results, it is saying the cmos settings are incorrect but will not allow me to boot in safe mode or last known good config etc. It will allow me to go to the set up and make adjustments but when I press F9 for load optimal defaults it does not seem to change anything. I am totally at a loss as to what to try next, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
David
p.s. it will not let me run a cd restore or floppy restore disk either and is sending no power to the usb ports.

Several reasons could cause this kind of behavior:
1. Defective power supply.
2. Defective RAM.
3. Hard drive with bad sectors.
4. The CD-ROM drive you are installing from is defective.

If possible try changing your cd rom or dvd rom for cd use check it is recognised in bios and change bios to boot from it,if you still get the black screen with flashing cursor ,could be os is missing due to hdd failure

I cannot boot windows xp

Hi praph_wicked, normal order would be, floppy drive first, CDROM second & Primary hard disk drive third.
How ever if your bios does not comply you can always press the F8 key every two seconds & that should bring up (Please select boot device). Which will look like this;

Choose the CDROM drive with the windows CD in it.
If you have just one CDROM drive, make sure the jumper on the back side of the CDROM is set to "Master". If you have two CDROM drives connected, set one as master & the other to slave.
If using an IDE cable for the two CDROM drives. The CDROM at the end of the data connector is to be set as master, the 2nd CDROM connects to the next IDE connector & Its jumper is set to slave.

Good luck!
Mike

Ilunable to read from hard drive or cdrom from p4i65g

Try changing the IDE cable which connects your CDROM to motherboard. Also make sure that Master/slave configuration are properly set if both the hard disk and the cdrom are connected with a single cable

Motherboard will not boot from Hard Drive

Go into your BIOS with the appropriate key (printed on the screen when you first turn the PC on).

Look around the various menus for a "boot order" or something to that effect.

I'd usually set it for CDROM then HDD... but as long as the hard disk is actually in the list before anything else with a bootable disc in it, you should be fine!

Problem in installing xp

Hi, Check in your bios that the DVD is recognised, if not then do an auto detect of hard drive and answer "Y" to all the save and exit. if this doe's not cure the problem then using ME log on to the manufacturers web site and click on downloads, locate the exact system you have on the site, then download the drivers including the driver for the DVD rom. When you have this load the XP cd and fire up. Good luck mistyman
