Well im going to assume that the ignighters are working and you have power to the range their is a device on the back of the range called a tod more than likely that's the culprit you must turn the gas off disconnect the power and pull the range out to remove the back lower panel un it you will find a black disc with two wires on it pull one of the wires and check that disc for continuity if its open then replace it if its not let me know we will go from there

Dear Turbulance, Take the grids off the burners and gently push a screwdiver in the gap between the top of the stove and the area where the lock is. Then slide the lock to left. Presto! it will open! Try this first.

Try taking the back cover off or whatever access panel you can remove to look inside for a fuse.

Most ranges have some sort of fuse protection.

The other thing is to check for power at the outlet it is hooked up to.

On a gas range, you only have 120v power that turns on displays and an auto ignitor, if you have one.

Why does the oven cleaning light come on when i turn the oven on

Make sure that you slide the oven door latch all of the way to the left after the clean cycle. If the latch is still positioned to the right in the locked position then the CLEAN light will continue to blink. If the door latch lever is positioned properly to the left and the CLEAN light is still flashing then you could have a problem with the latch mechanism or the electronic oven control. You can try to reset the electronic control board by unplugging the range for several minutes (or shutting off the breaker for the range outlet) to completely disconnect electrical power. If the CLEAN light still blinks after you restore electrical power then you will likely need to have the range serviced by a technician.

While self cleaning, we experienced a power surge. now the doors will not open and we can not get it to reset. F9-2 is the error message.

Hi happytrailri,

The F9-2 error code is a Latch, Unlock Upper. Check for obstruction in door lock mechanism.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a kenmore range with an e1 f5 error code after trying to use self cleaning oven. it now says oven is locked

E-1 F-5 is a faulty door latch switch. Try to turn breaker off to stove for about 30 seconds then turn breaker on while someone is pushing against oven door to relieve pressure. If this does not work try selecting self-clean mode again and then cancel it. If none of these work you will need to replace the lock latch assembly. Hope this helps.

Problem with oven door latch

Hello noahsark,

Welcome to Fixya

You said, after Hurricane Ike, when the electricity came back on, you noticed the oven door latch was in lock position and the door would not close because it would hit the door latch. You guess the door latch locked on it's own with the surge of electricity but did not lock the door in place. And that you have never used the self cleaning oven, so the door latch has never been used. How can I get the latch to unlock itself?

Was the range get under water?
If so there may be some shorts in it or faulty electronic parts!

Try turning the range off and then turning the power off at the breaker for 5 minutes.
This is should reset the system in an electronic range.
If it works , great .
If not you may need service to diagnose your electronic problem.
Let me know that it works!!!!!

Send me the Brand and mode;l number.

Please remember to leave a rating when you finish.

I have an old(over 20 nyears) free standing magic chef model No. 177-31DB2 range. I put it on the cleaning cycle and everything seemed to be working well. But then it seemed like there was alot of smoke so...

WHEN THE DOOR IS LOCKED ON A SELF-CLEANING RANGE, AND THE TEMP GETS ABOVE 400 DEGREES, IT LOCKS THE LATCHING ASSEMBLY SO YOU CAN'T OPEN THE DOOR AND GET SCORCHED. IF YOU FORCED THE HANDLE TO TRY TO OPEN IT, YOU BENT THE ARM OF THE LATCHING ASSEMBLY. IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE LATCH,
ONLY IF YOU FORCED IT TO THE OPEN POSITION, YOU MUST FORCE IT BACK TO THE LOCK POSITION TO STRAIGHTEN THE ARM.THEN IT MIGHT RELEASE.

IF YOUR RANGE HAS A LOCK BUTTON THAT NEEDS TO BE
PRESSED TO SLIDE THE LATCH TO THE LOCK POSITION,
YOU WILL HAVE TO SET ALL CONTROLS BACK INTO THE CLEAN POSITION AND PRESS THE LOCK BUTTON TO RELEASE THE LOCK ON THE LATCH ASSEMBLY. YOU SHOULD HEAR A BUZZING OR HUMMING SOUND WHEN THE BUTTON IS PRESSED.

KitchenAid KESK901SSS Oven door wont open after blackout

My kicthenaid oven door locked when a breaker tripped. I live in a sm. town. Some of my friends had to cut through the metal lock, then take the whole thing out the back of the oven along with some kind of spring. Don't try this at home. And make sure the power is turned off. These "Good 'Old Boys" can fix everything - and without the manual. The good news is that you don't have to pay a service man or buy parts. Just don't ever turn on the self-cleaning oven part again. I can get the guy to tell you how he did it.

Self cleaning oven door locked before I got the door closed.

Try holding in on the door switch while resetting the clean cycle.
This should rotate the latch. Once the cycle starts, cancel it. The latch should go to the unlock position.

You will have to hold in on the door switch during all these steps.

If this does not work, post back with the complete model number from the oven and I will see what else I can come up with.
