I was having the same problem, same message "card not initialized." I plugged the camera to the PC, and noticed that the trash folder had all the pictures I had erased. I went to "My computer" on the PC, went to the camera drive, navigated to the Trash folder, selected all, and erased all the old pictures that were in the folder. Once I did that, the camera started working again.
