camera says card not initialized wont allow me to view pictures

  • Anonymous Jul 11, 2008

I was having the same problem, same message "card not initialized." I
plugged the camera to the PC, and noticed that the trash folder had all
the pictures I had erased. I went to "My computer" on the PC, went to
the camera drive, navigated to the Trash folder, selected all, and
erased all the old pictures that were in the folder. Once I did that,
    the camera started working again.

I had the same problem. I bought a new card on a trip and used it a few times. Yesterday, my new card did the same thing. I can't read it from the camera or computer. It says.."card not initialized" and I cannot find a format option on the camera menu.

When I initially got the camera i could, now i can not load pictures from my GE Digital camera A1250 on to my computer. Need help to troubleshoot this problem?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I hate answering a question with a question but can't see a way around this. Are you using the camera to download pictures to the computer? If so what you need to do is purchase a card reader and I would suggest a card reader that does many different memory card types.

What this card reader does is steps completely around your camera and downloads pictures directly to your computer.

The Card Reader plugs into a USB port on your computer and looks at the reader (once the memory card is inserted) like an external mass storage device or external hard drive.

You then download the pictures from the reader/memory card to a file you create on your computer.

The nice thing about this is that it won't matter what camera you have or memory card you use the camera is no longer in the flow of pictures downloaded to the computer.

After the pictures are on the computer you can put the memory card back in the camera and "Format" the card this function is normally found in the set up menu.

Card not initialized

This usually means the card needs to be formatted in the camera but, this will erase all your vacation pictures. First, try downloading your pictures to your computer using a separate card reader. If that doesn't work, take the card to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture maker machine. You can print your pictures or make a cd from them. Then you can safely format the card in the camera.

Not initialized or card error

If your new card has an "H" or "M" before the 1Gb, your camera is probably not compatable with it unless a firmware upgrade is performed. This can be done by the user, with help and the software download from Fuji' website.

Initializing of xD-Picture card

The S3000 has a 512MB limit according to Fuji. Ther is also no firmware upgrade to address this issue. However I loaded a 1GB Olympus M type card into th S3000, which was pre-fornatted and worked straight away. After putting the card into the reader in my laptop, and then returning to the camera, the camera identified the card as not initialized. I tried to format the card in the camera but this didn't work.

To fix this I connected the camera to the computer using the USB cable located the camera card via My Computer, left clicked on and did a quick format in FAT (FAT16). After this the camera read the card and indicated 1305 frames available at 3M.

Card not initializing

Initializing (or formatting) the card, by definition, removes all data (this includes pictures) from the card. When formatting a memory card, by all practical purposes you are making it blank.
Hope this helps.
