After the tv is on for under one hour, it just shuts itself off. My brother-in-law works for a cable company and he said it is the power supply/source. I wanted to get another opinion. If it is, are they expensive and should it be fixed? Thanks.

My mother in Law asks this question all the time, first rule never buy a fancy TV for a christmas present for *********** in law because she will call you on your cell at all hours to fix her TV !!!
Seriously though how do you have your TV set up.
for example Cable box to DVR then DVR into TV
If this is the case
Although I am not familiar with the exact setting for your TV they are all practically the same. In this case make sure TV is on then right setting for example is it HDMI, AV1, AV2 or do you have a selct Tv channel either way you may have to use the channel up and down button for the Tv to put it on the right one or even the source button if there is on the remote - if you dont have a remote for your tv use the buttons on the Tv itself, make sure cable box is on.
Still not working - again make sure the Tv itself is on the right chanel as mentioned above. Also make sure the cable box is on. Now press the source or AV button on the DVR until it comes through on the TV. It may even be just a simple case of pressing the TV/Video button or AV button on the DVR remote if it has one or changing the channels on the DVR.
Sometimes electronic devices can be temperamental. My satelite box for example is a cheap one from Radio Shack. I often get sound only through the TV. If I turn the box off and back on though it works fine again.
They can be right pains in the neck these things. Basically all you need to do is find the correct order of modes that the Tv, video and cable box need to be in.
Ok you must be using a a/v cable at your house? And the hdmi cable at your brother in laws? If this is the problem its not the xbox hdmi cable. It doesnt matter all hdmi cables work the same. Its your settings. You need to hold you power button down and it should come on and beep twice then release it and a settings menu should pop up if it doesnt hold the power button down until it comes on and shuts off then hold the power button down again until it beeps twice. Hope this helps.
U get a channel numder and menu screen do show up?Not the tv,it the incomming broadcasting signal cable plug in or the cable box itself have problems.Tries unplug, replug the tv and the cable box back in like about an hour later. The tv will reset itself to the factory setting and the cable box should upgraded it softwares.Should work now.If have the same problems, tell the cable company change the cable box or check the incomming broadcasting cable wire with another tv,see the incomming broadcasting signal cable wire, with a new cable box,see if it work.
Unplug, replug the cable box for an hour later.Let the box boot up,and upgrade the softwares.Might have go to ur tv menu to rescan all ur channels again. If this don't work call ur cable company might have to change the box.
This sounds like a bad cap in the power supply. The component is only starting to fail under load and heat. I'll look up your specific model and see if there have been any reports of this type of problem.
The Sharp people told us they have had 35 complaints in my area about the Cable company signal (Cablevision) screwing up these t.v.s. Seems the digital channel settings are not compatible with the signal. I tried to confirm this with the cable company and they have no plans to fix anything on their side. If I unhook and re-hook the cable, the t.v. seems to work again. This is annoying because it happens on ABC where my favorite shows are!
