Question about Symbol WS 5100 6-Port Gigabit Wireless LAN Switch (WS5100R14306WW)

Problems with Symbol 5100 switches

We're having a high volume of xwaits and time outs on our RF guns, handhelds, etc. We can see data leave the RF devices, make it to the Symbol 5100s, through the network infrastructure, to the AS/400 for processing, AS/400 processes the packet, sends back through the CISCO devices, and can the packet return to the Symbol 5100 switch. At this point the RF devices are waiting on a reply from the 5100(s), but the 5100 does not send the packet. This is an intermittent problem. Approx 45 xwaits and timeouts per 8 hour shift with a work force of approx 200 users in the warehouse. Any suggestions?

Hi Rob:

There can be a variety of issues going on here. There are multiple levels of issues that have to be considered from the Telnet session on the RF to the Telnet server on the AS/400 and everything in between and underneath. Low hanging fruit are:

1. Take a good look at your wireless LAN for co-channel interference etc. and correct channel/power settings
2. Antenna placement (as opposed to AP placement). On an 802.11b/g network, for each diversity-enabled AP, the antenna's should be placed a maximum of 20 inches appart from each other to handle multi-path. The 5100 is a diversity-enabled switch so this could help resolve multi-path problems that are hard to identify.
3. The Telnet app on the RF has a multi-tude of settings that can impact this. Although tedious work, drill down through each one and give them due consideration as to their function and impact.

It's likely that you've already worked through these items but I'd be glad to discuss in more detail with you.

Can i connect a netgear JFS524 directly to acable modem

Connecting your switch directly to the modem instead of to a router is not a recommended practice. A router has Network Address Translation (NAT) and Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) which are important built-in security features ( i.e. a firewall). The router also gives priority to certain types of data so that VOIP phone calls ((internet phone service) and streaming media (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) are not interrupted or degraded. As far as I know your switch lacks these features which may then cause problems for some users when the network is busy.

Change ip address

You cannot change the ip address, if you are using static ip address. If it is dynamic ip address, you can change it easily by resetting the modem or switching it off and on.you can also use Proxy server or Hide ip address software to change the ip address.

To check the ip address before and after changing, Visit the site ip-details.com Here you can also search IP,domain host and it also includes city, country, global latitude & longitude coordinates etc.

NetGear FSM7326P reset to factory default

Netgear FSM (and GSM) switches have an RS232 serial console port. Connect to that using Hyperterm, PuTTY, Xterm etc. at 9600-8-N-1, and power up the switch. Early in the boot process, it will give you a choice of normal operation, or the boot menu. Select the boot menu before the time runs out (usually a couple seconds), and one of the options will be to reset the switch configuration, including the password.

As far as I know, there is no way to recover the password and leave the configuration intact.

I just bought my DYNEX 4-Port 10MBPS Hub. My PC and PS3 are attached to the Hub. Problem is only one work at a time. When I attach the secound one the green light is flicking real fast. As per manual...

A "Network Hub" is not a good device for connecting to a network. Collision is the most common problem with this device. Since you said that the device is new, maybe you can return it to the shop you bought and buy a "4 port Network Switch".

What the difference is that a hub transfers all the data that comes in one port to all the other ports. But the switch can decide destination of the incoming data. So, when the hub is sending data to a device, that device has to know whether or not to accept the data. This doesn't happen here in your case. So, better buy a "Network Switch". They both look alike and price difference is also not that high.

My facebook is blocked here in the office

Look into http://www.acevpn.com/ for $5 per month. I would caution accessing Social Networking and File Sharing sites once they are banned by employers, and attempting to find a workaround and accessing them anyways can be grounds for dismissal.
  1. One plan and one low fixed price - $5. The same VPN account works on all the supported platforms and devices. We support OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP
  2. Connect to any VPN gateway servers on our network at no extra cost. We currently have servers in USA and Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, UK). More servers being added in different countries
  3. Allows access to banned, blocked and censored websites, applications and services. Use VOIP, SIP adapters, Skype, Google Voice, instant messengers like Yahoo, MSN / Windows Live, Google Talk, etc., social networking like MySpace, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc., dating or adult sites even if blocked by your Country, ISP, University or Corporate firewall
  4. 100% anonymous, secure and private. Surf the Net without leaving a trace even on public unsecured Wi-Fi / hotpots
  5. Protects your privacy from behavioral ads and data mining websites like Google Ads, Quantcast. Prevent Identity theft

How do you perform a "factory reset" on a cisco c2912-lre-xl ?

From a console login, should look something like this:

Switch>

Go to privileged EXEC mode with the command "Enable"

Switch#
Enter the command "erase startup-config"

It will prompt you to confirm
When you confirm, it will bring you back to this prompt

Switch#

Now, enter the command "reload"
It will prompt you to confirm. And after a reload, you will be brought back to a screen that looks like this:

Press ENTER to begin

NOTE: if you are telnetting to the switch it WILL boot you out as you cannot keep an established telnet session without VTY line passwords and those are cleared by this process.

ALSO NOTE: This will NOT erase your VLAN data, VLANs are stored in a special file in Flash on a Cisco switch and SHOULD NOT be erased without professional help as there is a risk of destroying the IOS load on the switch.

GSM712 Netgear Switch password reset or recovery

As far as I know, you'll need Netgear's help to recover the passwords and they'll only help if you have a Premium support contract.

Try "1234" as this is the default if password protection is enabled.

Good luck!

There is no configuration on the switch, this is a dumb layer 2 device. Plug in you PC's etc.. and go. The switch will auto detect the speed and duplex of the device connected to it.
