Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Sansui vcr/dvd recorder combination. I've had it for a couple of years. DVD's that I have previously played on this unit now yield the error "Incorrect disc - error c104. I understand that the unit only play selected formats but these are discs that have previously played without a problem. Has the unit gone bad or is there something that I can do. Thanks.........

Yes. The one that I tried last night has only been played one time and I've only had it for a few months.

The DVD's are practically new and are in very good condition.

Can u pls check out whether the disc have no scratches or any damage ...

Your best bet is to try cleaning the disk, and if that fails, try and
play it in a different computer or DVD player to see if it just your
unit which cannot read the disk.

Try cleaning the optics with one of those DVD cleaners.

When that probably doesn't work, you can hand clean the optics if you
can figure out how to get at them. (easy on some, ******* others)

Most common cause for this is laser lens dirty/scratched/out of place . Try first using a cleaner cd and see if it works. If it does not you may need to open the unit and clean the lens manually with soft cotton and cleaning liquid. If it still does not work you may need to replace the lens group, in this I suggest to bring it to a local service shop.

Keep unit disconnected from power if you decide to open it, apart from usual electricity hazards laser beams can cause permanent damage to your sight.

Can the sansui vcr/dvd combo record vcr tapes to a dvd?

No, the DVD section only plays DVDs, to record VCR tapes to DVD you need a ripping device that digitalize audio and video (convert step) and then transfer to DVD specifications this data to disk (record step). The easiest way to do this is using a USB video capture adapter connected to your PC with a DVD recorder drive installed, the software to do this commonly comes as a bonus in the setup disk of the adapter.

How do i record from a vcr tape to a dvd on a sansui dual deck vcr dvd recorder?

If it is a combination VCR/DVD player, they usually can't do it.If you get a separate VCR player from a friend or neighbor, you can connect the VCR output to a cable box input, cable box output into DVD input,or if the DVD recorder has a digital tuner you can plug the VCR output player straight into the input of the DVD recorder.DVD recorders REQUIRE some form of digital input. That is why you need to route a VCR player through a cable box or the DVD recorder needs a digital tuner. If you are not sure if your recorder has a digital tuner, call sansui, they will know.I tried to find Sansui home and I found everything BUT DVD/VCR.If you have a manual it will be in there,or it may have a phone number on a label(back or bottom probably)of the unit.Good luck!Greg If you want to send me your model number,I will research it further too.It is up to you.

Only dvd plays properly but vhs will not show picture.

Most likely you have the dvd part connected through component or svideo cables. Despite the fact that this is one unit, like other vcr/dvd combo units it acts as two separate units in the same box. The vcr will probably not play through those cables. As you have audio coming through I'd imagine that the audio is connected using red and white composite cable. Connect the video on the vcr side with composite yellow cable or run direct to tv with a coaxial cable.

Won't play DVDs or CDs at all. Reads error code C-104.

Sansui VRDVD4005 will record DVDs provided they are DVD-R NOT DVD+R. I have one of these for 3 going on 4 years and I took it apart and cleaned the dust off the magnetic hub and that worked for awhile but (2-3 months) now I'm having trouble finalizing again. Someone on this site said it needs 8x NOT 16x disks ... 'cause it's an older unit ... I'm checking it out in the users manuel.

DVD-RW will not finalize after recording

There is no solution for your problem. I thought my 4500 wouldn't finalize also but what is happening is that it didn't record on the disc you used. This is an older model unit and will not record on 16x discs. I believe you are boinked.

DVD PLAYS CD'S BUT WONT PLAY DVD'S

Aquarius0128 there are two things to consider here.. dvd's recorded on a computer need to be closed/finalized after you have recorded onto them in order to be used on a stand alone player.. they will play ok on original recorder because of the design of these machines finalizing prepares the structure of the disc so it can be recognised by other players as a dvd video disc.. you will usually see a 'finalize disc' option in your recording program

Second issue is this.. even if finalized an older (or even some modern) stand alone players will not recognise a recorded disc made on a computer or even if it can there are different formats DVD+R DVD-R and even DVD-RAM and DVD-RW (the two latter ones are rarely recognised outside a computer)

Dvd well not play in pc dvd

Did you finalize the DVD disc after you recorded it? If not put it back into the unit and Finalize it P.27 manual " Setting the Disc" and it should play in all playback units. DD
