Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Elna sewing machine

I have an Elna, "Jubye" (my be Tuby-e). It was purchased in 1998. It has been used rarely.
I have had it fixed twice and my local machine repair person says he has fixed it, however it is continuing to have the same problem. When I sew, the bobbin's thread wraps around the inner bobbin compartment, then causes the tension on the top thread to become taut and break. I then have a huge glob of thread on the underside of my garment and I have to sever that to release the garment, then cut the 20+ thread cluster in the bobbin compartment. I will try to sew again and then it will happen after about 2 inches of sewing. I have adjusted the thread tension, tried different fabrics and had my machine maintenanced (oiled/cleaned) recently. Do you have any suggestions? I am ready to throw the machine out the window, into the street and run over it with someone else's car. Thank you! Amy Urban in Austin TX

Amy,
did you solve the problem with your Jubilee?
I would suggest that the problem may be not holding the two threads at the back of the needle plate with starting each new seam. Elnas really need you to hold the threads, don't let the tail get caught and pulled back into the bobbin holder area. Once you have one jam, you'll have minute threads you maybe can't see caught under the ring guard (black bit) and the jamming will keep happening. Also, make sure you only use Elna bobbins always with holes on the top.

If you've still got the Jubilee and are having issues with it, feel free to add more info, the other contributors comments about the bobbin being faulty are valid but I dont think your machine is worn out, just jamming. You can remove the bobbin holder yourself and clean underneath it and once you've done it once, and know how to line it and the ring guard back up, its pretty easy and will ensure that the bobbin area stays clean.

Need parts for Elna SU Air Electric sewing machine

My Elna repair man is also the individual I purchased my Elna from in December 1980. His name is Boyd Albright, located in Ottawa, Kansas. I have never had the issues you describe, but Boyd has always serviced my machine and as far as I'm concerend, is the best. When I was told by another sewing machine shop in Mississipi that my machine could not be fixed, Boyd did and for less than $40.00! Contact info: 1231 S Willow St
Ottawa, KS 66067-3439

He works out of his home as he is semi-retired.
