It's one of two things, the more likely of the two is that that battery is totally shot, laptop battery's are usually only good for 1.5 years then loose there ability to retain a charge. It sounds like that one's just done. Unfortunately that those batteries cost more than there worth, 100 bucks or more. The second possibility is the power cord, is that the original power cord for that? Or was on that was bought aftermarket, some aftermarket chargers will only power your laptop and not charge. Also remove the battery and check for corrosion. You can build your own battery for a laptop if got a few hours time, and are good with a soldering gun. You get the lithium ion cells you need for about 40 bucks.Follow the below link for a step by step on how to build your own battery

Batery won't charge new battery n plug

You may have the wrong AC adaptor, Dell is very picky when it comes to Power adaptors, it must be original OEM Dell for the laptop to recognize it, any after market no name brand even though it has the right specs and is made for your model will power your laptop but the circuit to charge your battery will automatically be closed

How to charge new battery in my laptop

as i do not know what laptop we are talking about here i asume its not a notebook
if it is the time is slightly lower (6-8 hours)
a normal lap top 10 - 12 hours.
some super batery laptops come with an own (long) guide how to keep the batery alive.

to keep the batery alive a long period of time charge it from 50% not when its at critical.

If u can take out the batery when you are using cable and its fully charged it also has a longer life time. or just take out the cable when its at 100% and recharge it when it gets to 50%

dont have your computer in the lap it can over heat the computer/batery and the lifte time gets even lower.

I believed this can be resolve by clean the cmos battery. you need to remove the cmos batery from the laptop then power it on then immediately turn it off. then put the battery back to the laptop then power it on keep tapping on f2 to enter setup. please follow the instructions from the link to remove the cmos battery http://tinyurl.com/yb3mhyg

When i turn the laptop on it just beeps several times and the battery and the circle with a Z looking thing light up.

Ok, the tilted-Z-in-a-circle represents the power indicator. As far as I know the power indicator is orange while the battery level is below 60% and charging, and green above 60% and charging. When the batery level is above 90% the power indicator starts blinking (green blinking) to let you know that the battery is almost fully charged.

Please try to turn on the laptop without the battery attached and secondly without the power cable attached. Does the laptop still beeps?

If yes, this could indicate a failure of the battery / charger / mainboard charging bridge.

First, if the battery starts to fail, you should be able to start the laptop by removing the battery. If this helps then you have to buy a replacement one.

Second, check the power the charger outputs (by using a voltmeter) and compare the voltmeter reading with the power adapter specifications (read the sticker on the power adapter). If there is a difference of more than 1-2 volts then it means that the power adapter is toasted. Buy a new one and everything should be ok.

Third - if the mainboard charging bridge has problems - this can only be investigated by a laptop service specialist. It can be fixed either by replacing a passive part or by replacing the motherboard.

The beeps you hear can be a code by which the laptop tries to tell what the problem is.Please describe the beeps and the timeout between them(e.g.: beeeeeep-------------bep---bep---bep -- this is the signal that the VGA adapter is no longer recognized).

Please rate this solution to keep the good answers comming!

Good luck with your tabled PC !

Batery hang problem

batteries have a charge memory in the, when you purchase a new battery the best thing to do is to fully drain the battery before charging it up, this will tell the battery that it needs full charge, if you charge the battery before this it will only charge the battery to a certain percentage.
what you need to do now is find a way to fully discharge the batteries

kind regards

This indicates that your battery isn't functioning properly or is going bad. You need to replace the battery. Bateries are batteries, some are better than others and some wear out faster than others, even though they may be the same brand, eventually all batteries need replacing.

Batery problem

I would call the manufacturer. Depending on your battery and what you do on it, that may be all of the time you get out of your battery. I have a small laptop and even on a full charge, I can only get like 2-3 hours of use.

first you need to know what is wrong.. you have to check if you have power (batery ,electical conection) or you can try to reset that by taking out the batery and try again that problem can be a faulty batery ,faulty ac adapter or the big problem prosesor due to the overheating if thats the case

Try taking the battery out for 30 secs or so and then replacing it. You'll find a couple of locks on the bottom of the laptop that will release it.
