Question about Konica Minolta Di1610 Copier

1 Answer

Printing problems We have a Di1610, and about 3 months ago, it started printing lines on the papers. It's not just smudges - it looks like it's almost reprinting the information. It does not seem to make the lines when we print something like a scanned document, but when we print from excel or word, it does this. On a word document we printed yesterday, there was the mark right in the middle of the page. I replaced the toner, shook the toner, and cleaned the drum. It is possible that I need a new drum? Can I still get a new drum for this machine?

Not to sound like a complete moron, but what's a fuser?

    The total count is 20538.

If you use a compatible toner you have to clean the fuser ( heat ) unit and replace the drum.
Sorry for my english i'm not to good at it.

If the image is repeating on the copy/print is because of the fuser
If there are lines on the copy/print you need a new drum
    ( drum life 16000 )

I ran a full clean and maintenance on mine and it worked fine for another month but then it started smudging and putting lines over he paper again. I ended up throwing it and buying a new printer as the Guy at the shop said its worn out. After 4 years of heavy duty printing, it wasnt a bad run.

try to stop the sheet just before it enters the fuser and see if the marks are on the paper already. if not then it has to be the fuser if they are them you have another issue.

Hi Richard,
Dots, Lines and smudges on the printouts are usually due to deteriorating cartridges and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and inspect them. You may observe the lines on the green drum. Gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines. (corresponding to the location where you are having a green line on the paper)
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer are clean and there is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots.
Moreover, streaks (thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located behind the green drum inside the cartridge. Observing the PCR with the help of a sharp torch light would let you assess the condition of the PCRs at the corresponding location where lines are appearing. Replace the Cartridges one by one and inspect the prints for the changes. I think you would be able to identify the faulty cartridge/ rollers. Also, if the waste toner area is filled and/or the plastic wiper/ cleaning blade removes the leftover toner/ waste from the drum and holds the waste is worn out, it results in spilled toner usually at edges and at early stages lines only.
Moreover, the function of the fuser is to fuse the toner onto the paper and it is usually done at the end of the printing process just before the paper is ejected (and the image/ toner on the paper is just fused - not changed). The fault at the fuser area usually results in smudges, ghosted image or unbind toner (which easily gets erased when touched). The time during the printing cycle when the toner is spread on the paper, additional toner (resulting in lines) is shifted to the paper due to cartridge related issues, which results in lines. Note that after cleaning the rollers, the print quality improves and the lines disappear or lighten. Try and check if the above suggestions work.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

It will need a new printhead, QY6-0062-000, around $80.00. Leaving it sit and not printing just makes the problem worse, as more nozzles on the printhead get plugged. You get 90 day warranty with refurbished units and if it started out crappy you should have had a shop look at it, that model can print super photos! A new printhead will bring it back to life.

HP J5780 Problem-Line on printed pages

most likely you have a flat spot on the roller.
that is exactly what is going to happen, when the paper hits the flat spot or a low spot. the paper stops and skips. them the print is coming out smeared.
you can get a repair kit or replacement roller from HP.
