You may go to the Brother web site. Go to support and enter MFC and model number and download the manual and do it yourself or you may call Brother and they would be more than happy to walk you through it. The MFC do not have to be under warranty. I just called them the other day for help. May have to wait anywhere from 15-20 minutes if you call on Monday or Tuesday.

To make surre that the harware is not faulty we can first of all disconnect the printer and uninstall the printer software from the PC . The reinstall the software once again and then connect the printer. The PC will now detect your harware-printer and install. Now the communication with the PC will be free of bugs and must be working right. However if there is still the message of wrong cartridge, then I am afraid we will need to check/replace the motherboard/printer head. Get a consensus to estimate the cost before you decide to change. Hope you try. Good day
This is a cartridge-type drum meaning that one can hardly do anything wrong.
I dealt with the company below for many years and was never disappointed with service or product:
Go ahead, make your day ;-)
If the printer has been used exrensively then its probably the printhead that needs replacing.
The i70 printer uses a QY6-0046-000 Canon Printhead
Printheads are available from many sites on-line and thru PC World
