Question about Audio Players & Recorders

3 Answers

Downloading problems I have just recently purchased a roland AT60SL 0rgan (thru your agents here in Brisbane Australia) However in recording my songs to the 3 1/2 inch floppy disc, I find that it is completely incompatable with Windows XP as it refuses to respond to down loading to the music folders Can you help with this problem? I assume that this is a problem to be answered by Roland at no additional cost to me, as it relates to a purchased item.

Additionally I should add 1. The floppy disc is 1.44MB
    2. Roland manual advises that it must be formatted in the organ itself
3 The recorded files saved to floppy disc are in the SMF format all with the suffix ".mid"

  • jimmelth Mar 12, 2008

the unformatted disc is formatted after installing in the disc slot IN THE ORGAN and activating a dropdown screen which says
"Press to format disc" Then "proceed"
It takes about 2 to 3 mins. when the sceen then says "formatting completed "

  • jimmelth Mar 12, 2008

yes I have copied the files (SMF) but thats the problem I'm getting some sound but only the base pedals. In other words No I can't listen or play. That's why I'm talking to you

  • jimmelth Mar 12, 2008

    Reading your last question again
Yes I have copied the files into the desk top
and I can't play them. I can play them thru the organ

  • jimmelth Mar 12, 2008

I get can get the file title but it will not load to play other than the base pedals. This checks with the file title on screen of 20 odd bites. the song as recorded must have a lot more bites than that That is in transferring to the desk top its only "grabing" only part of the recording

Yes as I say I can get sound but only of the base pedal notes and the rhythm taps.
so OK its not a problem of compatability.
But let me assure you I have saved the tracks exactly step by step as required by the owners manual. Incidently I have askes the Roland dealer "Ellaways" here in Brisbane but with no response

  • jimmelth Mar 12, 2008

You can access the user manual on the internet.
Go to www.roland.com----click on roland---then Products---then go to Organs
Scroll down to details of the AT60SL and down load Owners manual

  • jimmelth Mar 12, 2008

Yes I can play back the floppy on the roland organ and plays perfectly after trying to down load to the PC.
I have been able to record perfectly since the day it was delivered and can still record and play back right now thru the organ BUT NOT THE PC

As far as I know AT60SL is completely compatible with any windows version. it uses 1.44MB with standard.mid files.
Format a floppy using AT60SL.
Save some midi in it.
Put floppy in the computer
Open 'My computer' on PC.
Open ' Floppy ' on PC.
If you can see the *.mid files inside the floppy then there is no incompatibility.
In this case you will probably need just a software to play mid files on your pc.
If you cannot read floppy on pc and get an error message or 'floppy is not formatted' message then there is a problem either with AT60SL floppy or with pc floppy.
Test the floppy on different PCs, if it works on a different PC then it is a problem with floppy on your pc.
If floppy formatted on AT60SL give error on all PCs then floppy on AT60SL is faulty and should be replaced. Most common cause is bad or azimuth out floppy head.

The problem is with computer, not with the organ

    Ginko Mar 12, 2008

Can you hear any sound at all from that computer.

If you can paly on pc the base pedals track then is not a problem of compatibility. It is something wrong in saving track settings or in the way you are saving tracks.
Let me see if I can find user manual.

It is when you save on roland that something goes wrong, not when you play files on pc. If any other expert can post user manual, that will be great

The problem is that your AT60SL has a 7 track recorder on floppy, for
some reason is recording only 1 track. I couldn't find the user manual
on Internet. I need to ask tou few questions:
1)Important: If you play back same floppy we put now on pc, on roland can you hear regular music (all seven tracks) or just bassline?

have you even been able to record music normally with your AT60SL, I
mean were you recording normally untill yesterday or last week etc,
    then you started having problems?

Or you recently purchased the AT60SL and you have never been able to save/play tracks normally from AT60 to pc?

    thanks

Then the problem is with your midi reproduction device (sound card software emulation probably) on your pc.
Go on your pc. Go to start button, chose 'run' type 'dxdiag' into the run program box, press ok.
It will open Dx diagnostic tool .
Go to 'music' tab at top of Dxdiag panel on pc. test 'Microsoft midi mapper' selecting it and pressing test and see if it plays a melody (not only bass).

  • Ginko
    Ginko Mar 12, 2008

Do same test with dxdiag on microsoft synthesizer on same windows, just change selection in box in the middle.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Mar 12, 2008

If the test did not work then you have to download and install directx and or soundcard drivers (this depend on your pc make and model)
If the test did work then you can try troubleshooting the problem installing a midi player different from default , or upgrade windows media player.

    regards

I am posting back here the AT-80SL_60SL_manual for future reference

When you have the floppy in your pc.

Try to copy the mid files into your desktop or any other place you want to have them in.

If you can copy the files, but can you listen? or play them.
If not your going to need a codec for that but il provide that
later incase you cant access the files on the floppy, so report back when you have tryed :)

Just download and install Apple Quicktime Player. It can open and play .SMF files.
