Thanks for trying but the manual (which I downloaded from Acer) has a picture of the jumper BUT no description as to which pins are which. Any other info would be great.

The problem still exists. Jumper JFP1 hasn't got anything to do with audio. The pins on this jumper relate to Power, Reset, Hard Disk LED & Power LED. The manual shows them but does not have any description as to which one is which.
well only that in most manuals further on in, it should show the pin out you require.,

Note: The system has two microphone-in jacks (front and rear).
However, you can not use both of them at the same time. By
default, your system enables the microphone-in jack in front and
disables the one at the back.
