I know the ED5KVEXVQ has the filter in the grille nearly centered on the freezer (left) side of the unit. This is the P2RFWG2 or 4396841 filter. Push the button until the filter pops out. Take the cap of the end of the filter (the side that was even with the grille) by twisting counter-clockwise. Take the new filter out of the box and put the cap on the appropriate end (twist clockwise). Take off the red caps from the other end. Insert the filter into the opening with the cap to the outside and press firmly until it clicks into place.
The other common Whirlpool refrigerator filter is the 4396710. This installs the same way except it doesn't ship with a cap that you need to remove on the one end.
Your filter is located in the grill of the refrigerator (below your doors) and has a small plastic "handle" or "knob" on it. Turn the handle counter clockwise so that the line of the handle points up and down and pull out the filter. Save the handle to slide onto the new filter. I also believe that you will need to press the light switch in the refrigerator five or six times to re-set the filter status. Filter is part number 4396710 Good luck!
You are looking for filter part # 4396711. If you type that number into google it will give you many options. Also you could try any store selling KitchenAide appliances. Hope this helps
There is no link between the filter and the light, that light runs off of a timer. Take the filter back out and look at the housing that the filter goes into, some models have a little button that gets pushed in by the filter, it is a mechanical stop to prevent water flow with no filter in place. Do you hear a clicking noise when you attempt to get water out of the unit?
filter part number is fsp-4396710 @$39.95 it is located in the front grille on the left side. It unscrews and pulls out. You transfer the twist top onto the new filter and push and screw it back in.
