System Engine error 08,005.48

If I switch of the machine for over 6 hours, then it will start up again normally.

Some engineer told me the gears have become weak and the motor unit would need to be replaced.

I want a second opinion.

Also, a frank statement as to whether this is an inherent problem of all solid ink printers - as I plan to buy another solid ink printer only, but don't want to end up with two devices dying on me at the same time!

    Thanks for the help.

    The authorized Xerox Service engineer came and took out one rod which had two plastic fixtures on either end and said it looks damaged due to wear and tear (machine is barely 2 yrs old with only 50,000 prints) and will replace it once the spare arrives from Xerox.



    Meantime, I was wondering where can I get the work center C2424 service manual pdf file.

Hi Tryit,

From reading your detailled descriptions of the numerous problems it's possible to have and to cure with this printer, I reckon I've got a sticky print head block. I'm getting System Error 07,010.43:8651.

I changed the maintenance kit when it first happened but it was too late. The old kit was caked in horrible residues and some had clearly spilt into the printer's innards. I'd love to have your thoughts on how best to get inside the machine and clean it. I have tried to open it up but it didn't prove easy so I put it back together again and rang Xerox, who were conspicuously vague and unhelpful, although they were very prompt in sending a vastly expensive estimate for an engineer to come and replace the "print engine" (is there such a thing?).

Hello,

Now I've stumbled upon a similar issue with my Workcentere 2424.
At first I was just receiving paper jam codes, but after looking through it, and determining a no paper jams, I then started receiving a 07 code error.

I have since replaced the maintenance kit, cleaned the excess ink tray, installed ink, wiped out the maintenance kit housing cavity, ran many a system test, and reset the NVRAM.

Would anyone be able to help me resolve this issue?

  • Whether through PDF Manual -so I can properly get inside & clean, etc..
  • IF I should be performing any specific functionality tests, in specific orders etc..

    After looking through the 08 codes and tests, I don't see a motor or gears referenced.

    Looking through this what is obviously happening is the wiper is not operating properly. Can you look in your fault files and see if there are any 07,xxx.xxx codes?

    If there are that would narrow it down a little more.With what you are saying, that you shut it down for a few hours it runs well makes me strongly suspect the Matainence Clutch is failing. That would make a lot of sence.

    The other thing I can think of is some ink being spillled into the print head pivot block causing the wiper to not have enough room to move up and down. The wiper referenced cleans the drum between pages.
    I am asking if you have any 07 codes, which would more indicate to me that the print head block is sticky.
    If so I can tell you how to remedy that.

    And in general, the solid ink printers are exceptionally reliable. Exceptionally. The most frequent problem I do see is what I am relating the print head block winds up with some of the ink in it and causes problems. But that is a very easy fix.

    Suspect the Head Maintenance Clutch. I would give a probability of 80 percent or more, that the clutch is slipping.

Remove the covers. But before you go to eh print head itself, there is a print head pivot block that often gets contaminated with ink. The code you are having, is related to the print head not being able to move freely side to side, or tilt properly.
To access that block. You have ot remove the document feeder and scanner. To do that you disconnect the cable, it runs from the back to the scanner to the opening where the power cord plugs in, remove the 2 thumb screws and unplug it. You slide the doc feeder and scanner back, then depress the two tabs and completely remove it.
There is one screw in the back that holds on both the left and right side covers. You have to lift and kind of twist the covers in about the middle of the machine, The front cover will also pop off, it has tabs that holds the front covers together. Then remove them.
Look on the left side of the machine, looking from the front. You will see a stainless steel block, about one inch square, located about 2/3rd of the way back on the lower 1/4th of the frame. It has a spring and a clip over it. Just pull out on the spring bracket and locate it up and to the left, It is meant to be put there for servicing.
Look at the block. it may be filled up with yellow ink. If so , remove it with channel locking pliers. It may be VERY tight, so work it out slowly. Then soak it in hot water, that softens the ink , and clean it and the shaft thouroghly and remove as much excess ink from teh surrounding area as possible. Also, IF that is the problem. Probably a 75 percent chance, then when you return the printer to service. Get a small level, and make sure the printer is level BOTH side to side and front to back. To do that , you place the lecel on the platen glass, sideways then front to back. Often times those printers are not level and that causes the problem. The other things that happens is simple spill over from the ink catch tray, It is imperative you have those printers sitting level.

Xerox WorkCentre C2424: turned on, runs thru tests, initializing and then shuts off and starts the cycle again. The cycle continues but never resolves.


1. Power machine off and wait until completely off. 2. unplug power cord from wall. 3. with power cord STILL DISCONNECTED turn machine on and off again. 4. WAIT 60 SECONDS 5. plug power cord back in and turn back on
If this does not resolve the issue call for service.

Xerox c2424 has error message "Waste Tray Missing". Have emptied waste tray which was overflowing and placed it back in machine but above error message means it will not work.


The Waste Tray Optical Sensor 119-6487-80 is probably bad, which contributed to the overflowing ink. Look at the diagram #6

Workcentre C2424 System Error


That sounds like a problem with what is called the process drive motor. It is the assembly that moves the maintenance kit up and down to clean the drum.
It is located on the front right side of the machine and has a multi gear assembly to it.
It can be mistimed, there are 2 holes and an arrow on the bottom that must be aligned.
For service, to save money. you can contact a service dealer or an ASP in your area that would charge you far less than Xerox. If you don;t know who those service providers are, just let me know what your zip code is and I can look up the nearest ones for you.

Could be a dirty scanner. Not much to check, it is a lamp issue.
You can try disconnecting the cables to the document feeder and scanner. The one on the right side of the machine, where the power cord, thats is odd to access and tighten often works loose.
Here is the entire documentation troubleshooting procedure, this is from the service manual.
