Please checked in bios, is your dvd detected ?
if your dvd isnot detected, most of the time is your dvd, sometime it mainboard problem.
Also checked in the device manager, is your dvd there and need driver ?
if yes, you have 2 option, you can reload your OS or you can edit the registry.
follow this step if you want to edit the windows registry: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

I would suggest that you load My Computer and in the left hand pane where it shows the drives, right click on the CD drive letter and in the menu that appears, click on "eject" and the draw should open.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
remove all attached devices like printers or flash drives. remove battery and power on using ac adapter only. if it still wont work, try another good ac adapter. make sure ac adapter light is on. if it still shows the power light on and nothing else, replace motherboard.
The thing about cd/dvd drives in general is that they die and thats the case here even if you deleted anything of the operating system its self would notice that the cd drive was missing the driver and ask you about it since you havent stated that its safe to say that the drive is dead
I recently bought Acer Aspire 4530 but the camera is not working. the
camera is black and it doesnt open even if i change setting regarding
brightness and all. I even downloaded Bison 2.0.01.7 and Suyon 188.8.131.52
drivers but when i install those - even it didint work.
An exclamation mark next to the cd/dvdw in device manage means that there is a problem with the device's drivers. Either they are not the correct driver, or it has become corrupt. Try reinstalling the driver from the Toshiba website.
your windows installer was corrupted that why its asking open with , so if you windows xp cd which came with your laptop insert the cd and while installing it will show repair option(2 times it show 2nd time u click R) it will repair the operating system and your installer will back ** data will corrupt everything will be safe
the problem is with the Port that your connect with the Computer with the cs/dvd drive it is damaged or malfunction you have to either check your mainboard it has the problem , for that pls confir the same cd/dvd drive in another computer if it works fine , then it your main board Ok.
Your driver(s) may be corrupt. Try this. RIGHT click on MY COMPUTER from your desktop, select PROPERTIES from the drop down menu, select the HARDWARE tab, click on the DEVICE MANAGER button, click on the (+) by the DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES line, RIGHT click the drive that isn't working, (this part may sound scary) select the UNINSTALL option, click OK in the warning box, then restart your computer. On restart, WIndows will automatically detect the deleted DVD/CD-ROM drive and will install the appropriate non-corrupt driver(s). This should solve your problem. If not the drive may be defective. Hope this helps!
