Tryuing to conect a computer to my internet

LOL, how did you forget the security key? OK, lets pray for a little luck here. On some wireless routers and some modems that contain wireless capability the security key will be either on the side or bottom of them on a label. It is called the Network Security Key or Network Password. This is especially true if you have AT&T as your provider. If you have a wireless router that you purchased from a store such as Netgear, Dlink, Belkin, etc. then you will need to use a Network Cable to plug the wireless router into the computer ( it may already be plugged up if you have a desktop computer). On the computer with the network cable coming from the router plugged into it you will open up internet explorer and in the address bar you will type in the ip address of the router. For example the ip address for netgear might be 192.168.1.1 so you would put that in address bar where you normally type www to get to webpages. If you have access to a computer that is already connected to the internet just get on it and go to www.google.com and in the search type for example "netgear wireless router ip address". you'll find the ip address, or you can go to your router manufacturer's site to find the ip address. You 'll also need the userid and password to get into the router, so make sure you google that or get it from the manufacturer's site. Most times the router might be set to the default user id and password. Let's hope that's the case otherwise you'll need to get it from whoever set up your router. Once you're in the router, go to the wireless settings and look for the password. It might be under wireless security or it might just be under wireless. That's all there is to it.

I know it seems like a lot, but it's quite simple. The only thing that might throw you off is if whoever set up your wireless also changed the default userid and password to get into the router. Don't fret you can get around it by clicking the little button on the back of the router with an ink pen and hold it for about 30 seconds. This will reset the router to the factory settings including the password. You'll have to go back into it and turn on the wireless and set a password if you want one to secure it. Also if your internet connection is a PPOE Connection which is what phone companies use such as AT&T then you will have to put in your Network or Internet Userid and Password. Most folks don't know that because they think the only userid and password they have is their email userid and password from the phone company. NOT TRUE.... You'll need the Internet Password or you'll never reach the internet. In fact you might spend time talking on the phone to a customer service rep to get it all set back up. And they won't help you with the router because the don't deal with anything that's not their product. So in short HIT THE RESET ON THE BACK OF THE ROUTER AS A VERY LAST RESORT.

The wireless network security settings on laptop do not match settings on router?

Hello.
- This error occurs when the wireless security that you set on the wireless laptop does not match the wireless security on the router.
  • If the wireless router's security setting is WPA but on the laptop you used WEP for the wireless security, that's when a mismatch occurs.

- What you can do to resolve the problem is to delete the wireless profile you created on the laptop. After that, let the laptop search for wireless connection available, select the correct wireless settings and it should connect.
--For example the operating system of your computer is Vista, in order to remove the wireless profile you created and reconnect to the wireless router, do the following instructions:- Go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center- Click on Manage Wireless Networks on the left panel. Delete the wireless profile then Search for available wireless networks again. Type the correct wireless security settings on your laptop
-- If you would like to know what wireless security has been setup on the router, connect the laptop or use a desktop which is wired to the router then access the router setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser and then press Enter. Enter admin for the router user name and your password (or the default, password).

--After logging in. In the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the wireless security or you can setup wireless security from there if you haven't done so.

Will not connect to the internet. It is connected to the wireless; however, will not connect to the internet. Says: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. other computers on the same wireless can...

How is your internet security set? Try resetting your router to factory specs and see if your laptop works. I know it seems weird that only one computer wont connect, but try a different router, and try a different security setting within your wireless router.

Cannot connect to my router

download inssider and install it, scan your neighbourhood with it and make sure no one else is on the CHANNEL you want the NETGEAR to use. Connect the netgear to your pc with a network cable, then use internet explorer to goto to web address 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 to get you to the routers web page and login in as Admin (check netgear manual) password may be blank. Now make sure that mac address filtering is either NOT enabled or enable with your PCs address on the exceptions list. Make a note of the SSID and change the wireless security WPA-PSK code to one you can remember. Enable BROADCAST on the SSID. Save all settings and then reboot it and unplug your network cable, then try to access the router wirelessly, if it all fails, go back into the router and check that your settings were remembered, sometimes a router fails to save changes if it does this after several attempts get a new one.

How to secure network for DIR 615 so it can't be used by someone in the neighbourhood. When I type in the PIN # that came with router it says it is unsuccessful

Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.
