want to install xp but it cant see the hard disk because there is windows vista. how do i install xp on vista when it cant see the hdd
Microsoft does not support 'downgrading' an operating system, so you will have to FORMAT your hard drive, or at least that partition, before you can install Windows XP on it. The 'hard drive not found' issue adds an interesting twist, First, backup all files, favorites, my documents etc. that you want to keep. NOTE: formating will erase everything in your computer, Most compaq drivers are registered with windows so i expect it to pick install all the drivers automatically

Press F10 to enter BIOS setup... find and disable the SATA native support
Now save and exit then when you reboot and attempt to install XP you will have no problem.
Download the drivers you need from here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3375995&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3375953&swEnvOID=1093&taskId=135&swLang=8

XP doesnt have any native driver for the SATA chipset used. Please, follow this guide adding all the drivers that appears in the refered package. I have tested it on many laptops and works flawlessly.
I have windows XP unlimited edition on HP 530 laptop. In the device manager, sound, vedio and game controller is installed properly without any error comment. But yet, the laptop has no audio and the audio (speaker) icon at the bottom tray did not show.
