HP530 laptop needs to have native SATA turned off as XP doesn't recognise it
To do this;
turn on computer and press F10 immediately to get into setup for BIOS screen
Use arrow keys to move horizontally to System Configuration.
Then arrow key down to Device Configuration.
Go arrow key down to SATA native mode
use horizontal arrow key to change enable to disable mode
Press F10 to save change
Press F10 again to save changes and exit.
This slows the disk a bit but makes it visible to XP thus allowing it to install.
You'll still need the various device drivers!

Microsoft does not support 'downgrading' an operating system, so you will have to FORMAT your hard drive, or at least that partition, before you can install Windows XP on it. The 'hard drive not found' issue adds an interesting twist, First, backup all files, favorites, my documents etc. that you want to keep. NOTE: formating will erase everything in your computer, Most compaq drivers are registered with windows so i expect it to pick install all the drivers automatically

XP doesnt have any native driver for the SATA chipset used. Please, follow this guide adding all the drivers that appears in the refered package. I have tested it on many laptops and works flawlessly.
