Disc Error problem

Hi
My Sony (see below) has an intermittent fault when recording to DVD...it sometimes works...and sometimes says the disc is not a recordable disc.
I've tried:

  • with new discs
  • with a wet/dry lens cleaner
Thanks
Stewart

Hello sir ,

When did u buy the system ???

  • Anonymous Mar 13, 2008

    Step 1:

Check the disc you're using for scratches and dirt. If the disc is
damaged it won’t play properly, regardless of the DVD player’s ability
to function. You can use a DVD repair device like the "Disc Doctor" to
repair the DVD or purchase a new DVD.

    Step 2:

Make sure the discs you're using fit the correct format specified by
your DVD player. For example, if your DVD player doesn’t support
home-burned DVD-R's, then you can’t use a DVD that you made at home.
You may need to upgrade to a newer model, most of which accept the
    latest DVD formats.

    Step 3:

Clean the laser lens with a DVD laser lens cleaning disc. DVD laser
lens cleaning discs can be purchased at most electronics retailers or
online. Insert the laser lens cleaning disc and follow the
    instructions.

    Step 4:

Insert a correctly-formatted, undamaged disc into your player. Listen
to see if it begins to read the disc. If it continues to make no sound
and gives you the same message, then the problem is probably that your
disc is not spinning in the device.

    Step 5:

Turn the device off and unplug it. Take off the outer casing by
removing the three or four screws and lifting the top piece off. This
will allow you to see if anything is simply stuck or jammed. If this is
the case, a simple nudge back to the correct position will fix the
    problem.

    Step 6:

Clean the lens while the DVD player is open. A dirty lens is most
likely the cause of your no-disc error. The lens should be cleaned with
isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.

    Step 7:

Take your DVD player to have it professionally fixed only when none of
these other solutions solves the problem. A professional repair
technician will be able to tell you if fixing your DVD player is worth
    the money.

Hi,

If I may add to smilemaker and Darbsus and with their indulgence...

Your concern "intermittent fault when recording to DVD" and "disc is not a recordable disc".

Possible reasons/solutions:
1. the Sony RDR-VX500 has certain limitations to what blank DVDs it can record to. It will not work with Version 1.o DVD -RWs. Additionally the blank DVD +RWs must be 2.4X speed compatible. It will not also work with double layer discs nor with 8cm discs.
2. your choice of recording time/quality exceeds the capacity of the blank CD.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Sony DVD recorder player RDR-GX257. Player works fine. Disc recorder stopped working....

1. If your Sony DVD recorder player RDR-GX257's disc recorder has stopped working, don't despair! There are a few things you can try to get it up and running again.

2. First, check to see if the disc recorder is properly connected to your TV and to an electrical outlet. If everything is plugged in correctly, try pressing the "Reset" button on the back of the DVD recorder.

3. If the reset doesn't work, try unplugging the DVD recorder from the power outlet for a few minutes, then plug it back in. This sometimes clears any glitches that may be causing the problem.

4. If the DVD recorder still isn't working, it's possible that the disc itself is the problem. Try inserting a different disc into the player and see if it will play. If it does, the first disc was probably the issue. If the second disc doesn't play either, then the problem is most likely with the DVD recorder itself.

5. If you've tried all of the above and the DVD recorder still isn't working, you may need to take it to a repair shop or contact Sony customer service for further assistance.

I have a sony rdr-gxd455 dvd recorder that is supposed to play DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs. Everytime I load one of these discs, I get a Disc Error, even for one that was not used before.

If you get a disc error, it could be dirt on the lens. So you should try cleaning it. Generally this effect all discs, but your player might be sensitive so only does it on new discs. You could have a bought a bunch of fake discs too, looking genuine, but useless!
Lastly a fault on the player.

The laser readerwriter is most likely burned out, it is the most common failure. The option of repair is not really feasible as the cost of new is really low.

SONY DAV DZ260, home theatre. Trouble reading the disc.

There is some intermittent connection that is causing the issue. Finding it might prove to be a bear - I would recommend sending it back for another working.unit.
