Question about SanDisk Sansa e200 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Common problem...yet no working solution...

I have a Sansa 2GB e200.

I have read numerous times of the "blue-ring-of-death." I have the same problem...I have tried many different ways to solve it. First let me tell you what happens.

When unplugged from the computer, I push the power button. The blue wheel flashes once then becomes constant. Screen remains black.

When plugged into PC the same thing happens with a dialogue box that pops up saying that the USB device is not recognized.

I have tried the holding down the record button thing plugged in, not plugged in and not plugged in then plugging it in...the screen says nothing just remains black.

I have removed the battery, remains the same after boot.

I have downloaded the firmware thing, couldnt even get it started.

I have held down the power button, nothing changes.

Nothing seems to work. I'm pretty sure that the screen is not the problem. This has been going on for maybe a year or two now. I lost hope early and forgot about it...I plugged it into the computer and it worked for a little bit. But then I shut it off and now it wont turn back on again.

Anybody think they can help?

I think there's a capacitor that holds a charge for the blue-ring-of-death. The fix is to hold the menu button down for about 30 seconds (blue ring disappears) and continue holding for about 15 more seconds (or until re-boot). The additional time is required to discharge the capacitor.
If that fails, there is a safe-mode: place the device in hold, and press the mic and menu buttons at the same time. This usually doesn't apply to the blue-ring problem, but it may help.
