I have the same problem with my ASUS A6R after just over 2 yrs of use...

Checked the flat cables but nothing wrong with them. Checked removing the battery and using only AC, no change.

Removed motherboard battery to reset the BIOS, still no change.

Any suggestions to a solution are very much appreciated.

Hmm...sounds like you need a new palm rest..but you can open up the unit, and check to see if the ribbon cables are still connected.

you need to open up the unit, see if the cables are connected, and if not, it may be a new motherboard replacement

How do I turn on my touch pad on an Asus lap top?

Please try the Fn+F6 or Fn+F8 key combinations. If you look at the Function keys in the keyboard, they will have symbols on them in Blue color, the same color as the Fn key. Find the symbol that resembles a touchpad like a mouse/box with finger , then hold down the Fn key and press that Function key, ie, F6 or F7 or F8. This will enable/disable the touchpad.

You mean touch pad is not working? Try to press and hold Fn key (bottom left side on keyboard) and one of the function keys F1 - F8 on which is engraved picture of touch pad.

Eee pc r101 keyboard not working properly. Some of the keys won't type the correct letters and type the function letter or symbol instead or just random numbers. Also the touch pad and mouse click is...

The keyboard takes a lot of abuse and as durable as it is, they will eventually wear out. It is a very inexpensive part to replace and does not require a lot of skill. The fact that the touch pad is acting up could indicate that they are interconnected. I would replace both. The Touch pad is a more involved part to replace and I would suggest you get some help or pay to have it replaced.

You can order them off of sites like eBay, then watch a YouTube video on how to do it.

How do I disable touch pad when using a mouse? ASUS K50IJ Win7 64 bit

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

Alternatively, you can permanently disable the touchpad of your laptop by clicking the "Disable Device" in the Touch Pad setting. Advanced users can disable the touchpad from the BIOS setup [press F2 when the computer is booting to enter BIOS settings]

Unfortunately, there are no keyboard shortcuts to enable/disable Touchpad movement or tapping. You can however drag the Mouse icon from the control panel to your Quick launch bar for quick access.

If that sounds too much effort, you may consider adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad. This can be accessed from the Touch Pad tab of our mouse properties. Choose a low setting.

Compaq notebook laptop: my mouse pointer or arrow is

If you have a manual for the notebook, check to see if you can use the function key and the similarly coloured key on the keyboard which enables/disables the touch pad. Usually you can disable the mouse pointer touch pad with this FUNCTION key + MOUSE key when pressed together. Often these keys have the same colour (usually blue). The purpose is to disable the touch pad when you are using an external USB or wireless mouse, then you press the 2 keys again together to enable the touch pad once you have removed the USB/wireless mouse.

If that doesn't work, borrow a USB mouse and attach it to your notebook to use temporarily while you diagnose the problem.

When I hit y or w the cursor jumps to another part of the email usually where the pointer is sitting. Laptop computer.

The problem isnt the Y or W key. It's the position of your hand on the keyboard. Try using a wireless mouse instead of the touchpad. Then press your Function F5 (or whichever one turns off the mouse pad) and test it out. You're touching the mouse pad while you type. I do this all the time and it's very frustrating. I just went out and got a USB wireless mouse... It works great. Have fun!

Touch pad failed.

Look along the top of the keyboard for an "f key" that shows a "touch pad" icon, IF you see it, press the "function key" (along the bottom of the keyboard) PLUS at the same time the "f key" (that you found along the top) and that should "toggle" the touch pad back on....
Also, IF you plug in a USB mouse that will allow you to move the cursor around--but the USB mouse doesn't fix your touch pad problem.
Hope this helps.

KEYS AND MOUSE

Check to make sure your touch pad is not turned off. Regarding the keyboard you need to check to see if you have set the laptop to work off an external keyboard. Check the function keys at the top of the keyboard they are used to turn on and off the keyboard and mouse functions
