The photos I am printing all have very subtle lines going across the paper. It is as if when the cartridge is going back and forth during printing it is leaving a slight scrape across the paper. I changed the cartridges, cleaned everything, tried different paper. Help!

as I mentioned, before you asked for more help, this is most likely on your photo software side, not the printer...of course, maybe someone else will assist youas I mentioned, before you asked for more help, this is most likely on your photo software side, not the printer...of course, maybe someone else will assist you

Whats the question?? if poor quality printing, it could be dirty ink cartridges, dirt on the print head, poor quality paper ??? try looking at the printer settings, sometimes they may be set to economy rather than top quality printing.
Hi,
First clean the print head and clean the nozzles.
Reset your printer and select best quality printing in printer properties.
Finally you have to replace the cartridges.
Shaking these cartridges does nothing except give you a little exercise. If this is a brand new HP cartridge you are having problems with I would return it to the store you purchased it from. HP brand cartridges should not give you these problems right out of the box. The print defects you are seeing are due to a dried up or clogged print head. If you like you can try hydrating the print head on a water soaked paper towel until the ink starts flowing, but there's a risk you will cross contaminate the colors.
You can download the manual from Software & Downloads here.
Then work through this article and see here to diagnose the printing problem. Make sure the print quality is set for photos in the print preferences or properties.
You might try cleaning the cartridge contacts as described here.
Make sure you are using a good quality paper, that it is feeding correctly,
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
Issue:
Banded or streaked prints Solution:
Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows)
Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows)
The
Quality setting controls how finely ink droplets are placed on the
printed page. Depending on the type of paper being used a higher Print
Quality setting does not always insure a better print. Print speed will
decrease as the Print Quality setting is increased. Follow the
instructions below to change the print quality settings in the Canon
printer driver for the Windows operating system through a printing
application.
Click 'Properties' in the Print dialog box.
Note: Depending on the Application software, 'Properties' may be displayed as 'Preferences'.
Set the desired print quality in the 'Print Quality' section.
Select 'High', 'Standard', or 'Draft / Fast'.
To set more detailed print quality settings, follow this procedure:
Select 'Custom' and click 'Set'.
In the Set Print Quality dialog drag the slide bar from 'Fast' to 'Fine' to select the print quality.
Note: There are five options in 'Quality'. However, selectable options are limited depending on the media type.
Select 'Auto', 'Dither', or 'Diffusion' from the 'Halftoning' section.
the messages you get for cartridges other than the original are not trustful. You will get the right reading for original(from Brother) cartridges. Some ink is poor for printing photo quality.
not any refillable ink is right for printing photos, sometimes too dark, sometimes you don't get the right mix of colors.
the glossy paper you are using (hp) is smearing the ink... there is now ink on the feed rollers and you need to get in there and clean it all up with alcohol...also run epson matt paper for a few prints to get the color to lay down ..good luck
Paper type must be set to "Plain" to select Normal or Fast for Print Quality. Every other paper type selected will automatically set print quality to Fine (Photo).
Sometimes ,poor print quality may be due to ink build up in the maintenance station ..
Your ink cartridges stay in the maintenance station when not in use. Depending on the printer model, the maintenance station may be located on the right or left side of the printer. NOTE: You do not need to remove the cover in order to access the maintenance station.
To access the wiper for cleaning purposes: Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Move the ink cartridge carrier to the left by gripping the top of the rubber carrier belt and gently pulling it across towards the right-hand side of the printer. Take a warm, damp paper towel or napkin and gently clean the wiper on the right-hand side of the maintenance station.
As in software drivers?
