Samsung 3160fn network question

I also have a Samsung 3160fn and I can not figure out how to get it working on my network. I currently have it plugged into the router and I can not get my laptop to see it. I have been at it all day and can't find any help online either. I have used the users guide and the Network printer guide but no luck.

Help!

Jim

You have to have the software set up on the laptop to be able to print from it. Also when you install the software make sure the laptop is hardwired to the router. I have found that if I try to set it wirelessly it won't work. I set it up hardwired to the router then it found it wirelessly. So make it short. Set up the printer on your laptop as though the laptop is actually a desktop. Then it will be able to find the printer wirelessly.

Also make sure that when you check the Network settings on the printer you have the same TCP/IP address for the printer in the PC and Laptops. I posted a long explanation on another post in this forum. You can take a look and find as a solution to someones network problem. The way I do it is to set up the router on the computer first. Hook up the internet to the router. Then set up all the other PCs on the router. Then hook up the printer to the router and turn it on. Then run the installation software for the Samsung and make sure you tell it the printer is set up on a network. See if the software can automatically detect the printer (it should). Pick your printer from the list of found devices and install it. It should work fine then. Also make sure that the Windows firewall is turned off when you do that or have it set to allow local network traffic. Good luck.

SOURCE: Networking a printer on a Netgear Router

This is what I did to mine to keep it from conflicting with my HP laserjet. On the printer - Go to menu> network> TCP/IP> set that to Static then hit ok and go to TCP/IP Address, enter the TCP/IP address you want to use. I used 192.168.1.104. You always have to use the 192.168.1. the last three digits have to be over 100 and under 149. Go to Printer/Faxes and find the CLX3160FN. Right click on it, click on properties and then click on the Ports Tab. Go to where the check mark is. It should say Standard TCP/IP port and the name Samsung CLX-3160 FN. Highlight it and click on Configure Port. Make sure the address there matches the Static TCP/IP address you set in the printer. Good luck.

Couldn't scan from the printer to the computer

I got the same thing when I tried it on my machine. I use the SmarThru web admin program to scan to the network. It should have come with your machine on a disk. If you can't find the disk, this link should allow you to download it. http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_ia_cd=06010100&prd_mdl_cd=&prd_mdl_name=CLX-2160

Hope this helps you.

My Samsung CLX-3160FN has stopped printing colour. I have changed all the cartridges and it will copy in colour, but prints in black and white.

You need to check your document print settings on your PC. Drill through the printer properties menu until you get to the colour settings. At a guess you currently have it set to "Greyscale" rather than colour or auto.

Network scanning Samsung CLX-3160FN All-In-One Printer

You have to start Smarthru 4 and use it from there. First you have to find the scanner with Smarthu then scan. Play with Smarthru and the settings in it. It took some playing with it for me to get it set right. Now it works just fine.
