Also, I bought an ink cartridge off ebay, initially thought the problem was the ink, but then it should have the same problem even when i print landscaped.

Re: Problem Printing word documents
Yes..I agree...that line through the letters sounds like something from the font settings in word...do you have True type fonts selected? The landscape issues sound odd too, but I'm sure it's on the word settings side, not the printer. check your computers warranty here 4 FREE

your nozzles are partially clogged. You will need to try 1-3 cleanings, if that does not work, you will need to take it for service.
It can clogged in several ways, 1. using generic ink 2. not using the printer a long time 3. printing several documents after the printer says low ink on cartridges.
if your cleaning does not work, a service center will need to examine it, their cleaning procedure is more advanced and works about 60% of the time, if it still does not work, replacing the printhead and / or the cleaning station will do it, which i dont recommend based on price repair.
Your post "...it prints very faint horizontal lines in color..." is indicative that indeed your color printheads are clogged and would need repetitive deep head cleaning. This is of course would require that you keep on cleaning until such time as the faint color lines have turned to legible print.
Its probally the way your configuring the way the print file is printing (IE: portrait or landscape) portrait is the top side being 8.5" or landscape being 11" wide on top! First make sure your printer has both landscape and portrait formats loaded into your printer. This will help the you by when you go to print you can try both trays to print to. If this is not your problem then its the way driver is configured and possibly try printing to a pdf file. If you cannot create a PDF from the application try finding some trial software that will enable you to create PDF files. If you can create a good PDF file and can then print that file to your printer you will have better results, because the software your using might not be configured to work with this printer. PDF files will work great and you can see the preview before you print. If you have more info like what exact software you are using and what platform(PC or mac) and repost this question i will get the update and i can answer this question better.
