Backlight Inverter. Where is the inverter located.?

In my experience, the inverter is usually located at the very bottom of the display assembly (nearest where the hinges connect). You'll have to remove the bezel from the display to access the inverter board. Refer to pages 121-125 of this assembly manual. It doesn't discuss the inverter board directly, only how to remove the display (if you haven't already). The bezel on the display may have a few screws (behind rubber pads, usually), but the rest of the bezel should pop apart.

Screen on laptop advent 7102 very dull can hard use it hardly any brightness


The LCD screen for the Advent 7102 does not produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

An Inverter (Screen Inverter) converts electricity from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the Inverter.


The Inverter is a small circuit board located behind the Display Bezel, and under the LCD screen.

Troubleshooting Laptop Power Failures - Faint Image on Screen


Symptom

I can only see a very, very faint image of my operating system desktop on the screen.


Diagnosis & Solution

In such cases, the first thing to do is to plug in an external monitor and see if you could get a good image on it. If you get a good image on the external monitor, then this means that the video system is working, but the LCD isn't getting any backlighting. This could be due to either a failing backlight lamp or a failing inverter. The usual culprit is the inverter, especially if you didn't note any strange tinting to the laptop display in recent operation.

The traditional method used by technicians to test inverters is to connect it to a known good backlight lamp of the proper type, and test to see if the inverter could power up the backlight lamp or not. You could also test the inverter by connecting it to a good laptop screen that you might have salvaged from a dead laptop. If the inverter lights up the screen, then the inverter board is good and you are left with a bad backlight lamp as the cause of the problem. Otherwise, it is the inverter which is bad & needs to be replaced.

An alternate method to test the inverter is if you have access to a good quality RMS multi-meter, one that can measure frequency to 50 MHz or 100 MHz, you should be able to get a reading on a functioning inverter without even taking the lid apart. The inverter is normally located below the LCD in models with narrow borders, or to the side if there's an inch or so of plastic bezel on each side of the LCD. By scanning with the multi-meter probes over the plastic along the edge of the screen, you should pick up a strong signal somewhere between 30 KHz and 70 KHz if the inverter is live. If you can't pick up the signal but want to be sure, remove the plastic bezel from around the screen and measure right on the two insulated wires leading to the backlight. If the inverter is functioning, the meter will pick up the signal right through the insulation, since the inverter is putting out a low radio frequency signal.

Most of the time, a bad backlight lamp means that the whole LCD screen needs to be replaced.

Screen is not lighting while laptop is running.


Hook a spare monitor to the video output on the back of the laptop, if okay it means the video card is working fine. The problem is a bad inverter board, "located under the LCD display" or the back light is defective behind the screen, "usually means a screen replacement"

Hp g5000 sreen does not light up as usal, i can see a the start up when i shine a torch at the sreen, what do i need to do to get working.


An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional source of light.
A Backlight is used as the additional light source.

The LCD screen is a composite of layers, surrounded by a thin metal frame that resembles a picture frame.
To one side of the LCD screen layers, and under the frame is usually where the Backlight is mounted.
[Note* Two Backlights are used in some models]

Replacing a Backlight is more labor intensive than replacing an Inverter.
Due to this, and the cost, the LCD screen itself is replaced as a unit most of the time, when it comes to Backlight replacement.

[Note* Stating HP G5000 is just stating the model series. When buying replacement parts the EXACT Model Number should be used. This information is located on the bottom of the laptop, in a white Service Tag.

When replacing an LCD screen, the model number of the replacement LCD screen should be matched to the existing LCD screen's Model Number.
Inverters and LCD screens are matched together. Make sure you get the correct part]

An Inverter is used to provide power from the laptop to the LCD screen, and to the Backlight.

Note* 90 Percent of the time the problem is a bad Inverter.

The LCD screen, Top Cover, Display Bezel, Inverter, Backlight, and various screws, make up the Display Assembly.
The Display Bezel made of plastic surrounding the LCD screen, and in front of the LCD screen is removable.
Behind it is easy access to the Inverter.

The Inverter is approximately 4 inches long, and the width of a No.1 pencil.
Usually located at the bottom of the LCD screen, and right behind the Bezel.

Lap top dark screen, with system working fine. plugged on external vga, it works.

An Inverter reduces the power coming from the laptop, for the Backlight.
An Inverter increases the power coming from the laptop, for the LCD screen.

An Inverter is a small circuit board located inside the Display Assembly, behind the Bezel, and usually towards the bottom of the LCD screen.

This is a typical example of an Inverter. It is NOT THE Inverter that you will need.
You have to match the Inverter to the LCD screen. has to be THE Inverter.

The backlight won't turn on but occasionally will flicker.


Suggest you replace the Inverter. A Backlight goes out all at once.
90% of the time the Inverter is the hardware part at fault.

Replacing an Inverter is a simple job. Replacing a Backlight is not.
The Backlight is located within the LCD screen assembly.

The metal frame of the LCD screen assembly is removed along the edge where the Backlight is located, to access replacing the Backlight.

Why has screen gone black on compaq 8510p. Can vaguely see print


Sounds like either your backlight bulb has failed or the inverter that powers the bulb has failed or a connection has come loose from the inverter to the LCD panel. Unless the laptop was "Jarred" or dropped, I doubt the bulb has burned out....most likely if no damage occued, the inverter has failed or there is a loose connection with the inverter.

Your inverter board is OK otherwise you will not get any light on the screen, there is only one inverter board, Check the flat ribbon cable connected to the LCD panel (locate behind the LCD panel), when this connector comes off you will get white screen.

The Inverter board must be tested and eventually replaced. The inverter is the small board located at the base of display. This is connected to one side to the backlight lamp, to which supplies AC high voltage, and on the other side to motherboard, where receives DC voltage.

Inverter contacts to otherboard and to lamp must be tested , using a multimeter to read volts. The inverter is an AC board, and for safety reason the test must be done by a trained repairer.
If the inverter is OK check the contacts to motherboard and wiring harness to motherboard..

Also ensure that light is not just dimmer because energy save mode is on, or because the laptop is running on batteries.

I turn on my computer but the screen is still black


think you might have a failed screen inverter (FL inverter); this problem is very common with laptops. The inverter board acts as a power supply for the LCD screen backlight bulb, it converts low voltage DC power into high voltage AC. On most laptops the inverter board is located inside the display assembly below the LCD screen and you can get access to it if you remove the screen bezel (LCD mask). When the screen inverter goes bad the backlight will not turn on anymore or it turns on for a short time and then goes off, but you still can see a faint image on the screen and the external monitor works just fine. First of all I would make sure it’s not just a loose connection and reseat connectors on the inverter (it looks like you already done this part). Next, I would try replacing the inverter board. It might fix your problem with the backlight. It’s possible that you have a faulty cable, bad motherboard or even bad LCD screen, but I would try replacing the screen inverter first.
