Question about InFocus Lamp Projector Lamp for LP240 [ SP-LAMP-005

InFocus LP280 problem

I've been using our InFocus LP280 projector about 10-15 times per year for the past 3 years (about an hour each time).  Today, out of the blue, the colors started going wonky - in and out-- the photo would turn to blues and greens and then back to normal, and all of a sudden a bright yellow spot appeared in the middle of the projection.  Within a minute, the spot turned to bright red.  I turned the projector off.
I have tried to find support on InFocus' website, but to no avail.  Did my lamp burn out, or is this simething more serious?

Hi there

I'm afraid this might be a faulty Mainboard.

Your lamp will never make the Projector show funny stuff on the image.

Must warn you that a new Mainbaord is quite expensive

i was thinking of a different model, but I'll be honest, if you are sure your lamp is good and ALL of the fans are on, then it probably is the power supply acting up again.

go into the menu to find out the lamp hours. it could be the lamp, but if the projector shuts down and not just the lamp, there is either an overheating issue, or a power supply issue.

Not mine but a friend's. Found a manual online, read it, fixed it. One must wait a while when pushing those buttons. One must have patience and read the manual before crying "it don't work".

You may be hearing the color wheel turning. Make sure the lamp is installed correctly and lamp access door/plate is properly closed.

I can almost guarantee that your bulb is out. We probably have 20-30 projectors of this model in the school and bulb life averages a little over 100 hours even though they advertise 3000 hours. Infocus has been known most for their poor cooling system to the bulb over the years and most owners won't get the life expectancy of the bulb. If you remove the bulb you will find a small restrictive vent screen on the bulb and commonly it will be filled with collected dust. This model really doesn't have any removable/cleanable filtering system installed - again a cheap and poorer design then many other brands. We have decided not to purchase infocus projectors anymore in the district. They were a seller at one time because they were cheap, but because they don't last they weren't really a deal after all. Sometimes though a ballast for a projector will go out and it will be unable to power up a good bulb. I wouldn't consider fixing it because of their overall poorer reliability.  If your looking for a cheap but more reliable brand of projectors I'd steer towards Epson projectors. They tend to have lower costing projectors and bulbs then most and I have seen in person that they last well above their advertised lamp hours in different models. Their are many good brands out there but InFocus is not really one of them - they have under built projectors and poor phone support.
Hope this helps a little. - Scott
