Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A

I just recently purchased an ACER Aspire 3680. It Came with Vista Basic on it. However when I went to reformat I noticed my Optiarc drive would not read a data cd or dvd. It would play dvd movies just fine but won't read actual program discs. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue. I already reformatted and put windows XP pro on the laptop I had to use an external cd drive to do this. I just want my optical drive to work properly.

I was able to use an external drive to reformat and install xp pro. I have gone into the registry and I'm not finding the upperfilters and lowerfilters.

Thanks for the help I have tried a number of things since this post. I'm chalking it up to a bad drive as well at this point in time because I found out that if I create an .iso of a disc and burn it to a dvd it will work so I think the cdrom part of this combo drive is bad. I am testing that theor actually right at this moment. But I do appreciate the help.

You need to edit your registry.
Click the Start button, click run, type in the run window regedit than click OK
Close any opend Keys. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE than open SYSTEM next open CURRENTCONTROLSET than open CONTROL than open CLASS & find
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} listed in the right half of the window right click on LOWERFILTERS & left click delete, then right click on UPPERFILTERS & left click delete.
Exit the registry, and reboot the laptop.

Good luck.

Ok than, try disconnecting it. Just unplug the power to the drive. Fire up the system. Check you’re OS for any updates even though you know it may be completely updated. Shut it down & re-connect the drive. Before entering windows go into the bios & make sure it is listed & the bios settings are correct & place is first in the Boot order. Restart the system. Windows should see the drive & install the correct driver. Once windows has finished check device manager for the drive. Check its properties.

(everything look ok)? The only other thing I can think of would be to try it in another notebook or PC. Though I am no fan of Vista, I doubt Vista messed up the drive. It may just be defective.

I am also no fan of Acer either & if I were asked what notebooks would I recommend, I assure you Acer would not be one. They are the hardest Mfg. to find drivers & software updates. One of the only sites that do not list a search window.

Sorry I could not be more helpful. Think I'll stop trying to help with Acer products. It's a loss cause.

My optiarc cd crx880a ata device is not working it is not reading any disc

Most probably your Sony optiarc cd crx880a could be defective. If warranty period is still valid, go back to your vendor for a warranty claims.

FYI - Optical drives never require a driver on Windows OS from Win95 up. Windows XP, Windows Vista and Win 7 both provide native (IDE)

I deleted accidentaly the program optiarc

If that doesn't work try system restore.

Go to start>all programs (or programs if on classic view)>accessories>system tools>system restore. Next select restore my computer to an earlier time then click next and follow the prompts. It is going to ask you which restore point to choose, you want the one from right before you removed that drive.
Hope that helps!

Optiarc cd-rw crx880a ata device: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Did you try to click "Troubleshoot" on the page that reported "cannot start" ?

Did you try to click on the device, and choose "uninstall" ?
Then, rebooting Windows should cause Windows to "find new hardware", and properly configure the DVD/CD drive.
