I have a 2008 street glide. I removed the inner fairing to paint it. I took the ignition switch out and when i put it back in, it turns and wont do anything. It wont come out either. How can i get it out?
Turn the switch fully to the left. Turn the handles fully to the left. There is a small tab under the switch on the right corner of it, push the tab up, (KEY MUST BE IN)

I'm not familiar with the later model bikes. My expertise is in the earlier models but if your Street Glide has the large ignition switch that is in the steering head, do not remove it. You can get it out but you can't get it back in without a special tool to align the different parts. Take that one to the shop.
take off the front headlamp, unplug head lamp, remove windshield, remove screws along outer edges of inner fairing, there are 2 screws at the bottom inside the triple tree. This should remove it for you, i have done it several times adding speakers, garage opener, replacing bulbs, etc.
no need to remove the inner fairing to tighten the handlebars. You will have to remove the outer fairing however and the radio. Its not really difficult but I would suggest buying a factory service manual if you want to attempt it yourself.
you need to get a big screw driver pref. craftsman they have the biggest tip you have to align the tumbler all the way to the lock position. Note: turn the bottom one first then the top it is impossible to turn both at the same unless you spend 50 bones on the special tool that Harley f**king Davidson sells go figure more corporate bs. then put it in with the key in and turn it to desired position. Note 2: The handlebars must be turned all the way into lock position as if you were going to lock it. Hope all works

You turn the ignition knob to LOCK position, and then you feel under the knob on the left for a switch. Push that up with your finger and at the same time, turn the ignition KEY (not the knob) counter clockwise for about 1/8 turn. You will feel a click and the knob will pull right out. After that, unscrew the collar nut on the threaded section and two metal pieces and a plastic spacer pull off. The fairing cap (the plastic cover) is attached by two bolts, on the outer sides. The wiring loom will disconnect when you unplug the connector.
you need to get a service manual because removing the inner faring requires you to remove the key assembly from your dash first it is easy but i recomend the manual to help you with it
